Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Luke W, Sheffield, visiting York Barbican Mon, 13 May 2024

Paid around £270 for 1 night stay not including breakfast. No parking available at hotel and £25 a night for the 14 or so bays. That’s over £300 a night for the hotel. No fridge in the room which was a complimentary upgrade. Another night booked there later in the year, it will be the last. noticed a brand new Premier Inn a few hundred yards away, will use that thereafter.

Liked: It is a nice hotel in a good location.
Disliked: Price of one night stay. Parking charge and no fridge.

Ok but staff service not...

Liked: Property was ideal location to York city centre so good for a long weekend
Disliked: Room smelt strongly of cigarettes when we first got to it which isn’t great as someone in my party was heavily asthmatic, no phone in our room so had to go down to reception and sort this out. During our stay they also didn’t bother to make up our room due to an error on their part. They also randomly deactivated our cards on our second day so we had to again go and sort that out manually as there was no phone. Room was ok bir rough round the edges and close to traffic so quite noisy

Laughably bad and severely overpriced

Liked: Good location
Disliked: Where to start? 1. The AC unit in the room was broken, 2. The fan was broken, 3. We asked for a working fan three times, got told we would be sent one (also three times), but it never arrived to our room, 4. The bathroom was filthy and smelled like a drain, 5. The room was dusty, 6. The hotel is extremely noisy and we slept terribly as a result, and lastly, 7., we paid nearly £200 per night for all of this. Double Tree is painfully overpriced for how bad and delapidated the hotel is. It is NOT a 4-star hotel by any stretch of the imagination, and I would urge anyone considering staying here to find a different hotel in York. Please, management, do not comment on this review with the same empty reply you have given to every other bad review on here. Save it.

Woeful - especially as it...

Liked: Nothing - 1st (De Luxe) room we were given had a lavatory that did not flush. 2nd one had no power for razor or t/brush in bathroom. Shower head holder was broken.
Disliked: SoullessThe room below our bedroom was a disco from 9pm until midnight. The entire building was vibrating! Didn’t sleep after that because of severe headache.

Nice hotel, badly managed poor...

Liked: Breakfast was superb at hotel Lobby beautiful and staff was some what helpful
Disliked: Room was very poorly cleaned upon check in the room wasn’t ready which I was entirely surprised by as I had arrived before 4pm when I did get to the room I was shocked as to why I had waited till 4 as the room was very poorly cleaned it had been quiet rushed towels hidden in wardrobe A/C unit didn’t work so a small fan had been placed in the room I had paid £309 for a room I hadn’t been told that there was no A/C just a small fan, bed had stains on the sheets, I did call reception that evening as there was quiet a lot of noise in the hallways , but was no security and you didn’t need a key card to gain acesss to the hotel so random people could enter, I did explain that at 4:30-5am you don’t expect this much noice but nothing was resolved so safe to say I will not be returning to this hotel, WiFi was also terrible

Disappointing

Liked: The staff were polite.
Disliked: I didn't have Internet access for the 2 nights I was there . The room I had was poorly decorated and looked old and shabby. It was a disability access room and that was fine because I did want a room wiv a bath .

Pleasant

Liked: Staff were friendly, location was great, nice breakfast and comfy bed. Had lunch too which was tasty. Communal and bar areas really nice. Large car park close by.
Disliked: When we got to our room the key pad had ran out of battery. Went to reception to report but still had not been sorted when we got back on the night. No trademark welcome cookies. No remote for tv in room. We stayed in the older part of the building in an attic room and the interior was a bit shabby with damp round windows and mould round bath. No blind on one of the 2 ceiling window so woke up early with thr sunlight flooding in. Corridors smelt a bit musty
