DoubleTree by Hilton Coventry Building Society Arena

Just wish to say that my wife and I were looking forward to this night out at this venue. But when we checked in all things changed - we couldn't check in until late - 7pm. Because we paid by cash they wanted a £50 deposit just in case we broke anthing in the room - good job I had it on me. We went to our room that we booked at a special rate because of the poker tournament - OMG!, box room; bed on the floor - had to lower yourself down to get on it and a 14 inch TV in the room; one very small wardrobe and an ensuite shower and basin that you banged your arms off every time you moved in it. And to top it off, we went for breakfast and the staff ignored us. The kitchen staff said we hadn't paid for breakfast in that room, even though I asked for breakfast when I booked it. We went straight upstairs and packed and checked out. Never had any of this trouble at Stoke at the Quality hotel and got a superb breakfast there at the same price I paid for this dog kennel. Bad experience. Please Nuts Poker, go back to Stoke.

Great location but rooms need...

Liked: Location is great and bathroom toiletries very nice and feel and smell very premium (Crabtree & Evelyn)
Disliked: Our room smelt damp and musty, the shower was cold and didn’t warm up so not a relaxing experience. Didn’t sleep much due to neighbours, worst was at 5am being woken by drunken shouting and pacing the room (I’m a heavy sleeper!) Rooms aren’t sound proof, and the hard floor by entrance is very loud if guests are heavy footed. Staff not very welcoming, didn’t offer to help with bags and I arrived on my own with lots of luggage. Room was so far away, and not given any warning about the distance with bags. Email could be more specific about what car park to park in before arrival. Costs £10 a day but they do warn you in pre check in email.

Liked: Stayed for one night as we were attending a concert at the arena which is literally next door. Excellent location and piles of parking. As we were checking in we were lucky enough to be stood next to the artiste we were seeing that night, what a wonderful start to our weekend away!!!! When we got to our room we had the most amazing view of the football ground which made my footie mad hubby very happy!! Excellent room, spacious and clean. Breakfast was fabulous with lots of choice. The hotel was very clean and every member of staff we encountered were so polite and helpful.I hope I get to stay here again and I highly recommend this hotel to others.

Disliked: There were flys in the room and I was on the 2nd floor, bath mat stained, no hot water. Woken up at 5am with lots of noise from the floor above
