Distinction Whangarei Hotel & Conference Centre

Great location; facilities not so

Liked: The location was excellent, just across the road from the Town Basin and CBD. The kids liked the breakfast buffet and having choices for the first meal of the day. The parking area was large and the lounge areas gave us space to unwind.
Disliked: I was disappointed by how different the actual facilities looked vs. the photos. We stayed in a junior suite for 3 nights for our family of 4 and thought there would be more space. The carpets along the corridors were brown and looked dirty even if they probably weren't; there were scratches on the walls of the stairwell probably caused by luggage brought up and down the stairs. The blankets had stains on them (probably washed but stains not removed) and there was no rubbish bin in the bathroom. When I called to ask for one, I was told there was one in the main room (which was tiny) and if I still wanted one for the bathroom. I said I did because most hotels I went to did so they brought one in grudgingly. After a whole day out, we returned to our room that was not cleaned. When I called to enquire if the cleaning was part of the hotel's offerings, I was told it was. The lady who answered eventually came up with clean towels and said that the cleaner had indicated that our room was cleaned when it wasn't. Our room was cleaned the rest of our stay there.

Disliked: nothing

Not bad for price and...

Liked: Location was perfect, the cleaners were amazing and so friendly and polite and the beds were seriously the most comfortable ones I've slept on at a hotel.
Disliked: The signs stated that the pool was heated and it wasn't. The rooms were not sound proof at all and we could hear our neighbours talking.

Will return
