Liked: Convenient university hostel with small rooms and beds. No breakfast. It's a 20-minute walk from the city center and easily accessible from the airport by tram. WIFI available. Located in a quiet street.
Disliked: None

Very good
Liked: we loved the area, the long leith walk close by offers a lot of places to eat out or have a drink or a coffee. and given how expensive edinburgh is (even more in summer as we learnt) a student house/campus such as the murano offers good value for money. one simply has to be aware that it is not a 4-star hotel and that the rooms are the ones where students are usually accommodated (so if you are a couple planning to share the bed bear in mind it is NOT a king size). the location is also close to the tram stops so if you are flying in or out it will be rather easy to reach the airport
Disliked: when checking in guests are given a towel (one each) but no soap; it would make sense to include a small bar of soap when handing over the towel (which could in turn be somehow wrapped/protected...)

Great price, great location and...
Liked: We love the price (very reasonable) and location (only a 5 min walk to the bus stop and 7 min to the tram that will run you all the way from the airport to the waterfront. The bathroom was very clean and decent-sized compared to many European bathrooms we've stayed in before. There were plenty of places to eat close by. You could walk to a dozen restaurants, bars, and coffee shops with 10-15 min. The staff were so friendly! They couldn't have been more helpful. We will stay here again if we are back in town.
Disliked: The windows do not open more than a few inches. There is a security cable that keeps you from opening the windows any further than this. Even though the nights were in the 13-14 degrees Celsius (55-57 Fahrenheit), the room didn't cool off very much because of the windows being nearly closed. I asked about the cables and they said it was a safety feature to keep people from jumping out of the window. I mentioned that it was a safety issue to keep the window closed in case of fire but didn't make a big deal out of it. Two different views. They did have fans, so we grabbed one on the 2nd night and we slept much better! Make sure you ask for one early in the day (at check-in) because they go fast!
