The Spotlight on Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club

Luxury, Leisure, and Late Nights — Just Outside Edinburgh

Set within 1,000 acres of picturesque parkland, Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club blends historic charm with modern comfort. Located just a 20-minute drive from central Edinburgh and easily accessible via the A71 and M8, this elegant 18th-century country estate offers a tranquil escape after a high-energy concert night. With two 18-hole golf courses, a full-service spa, and upscale dining options, it's a top pick for music fans who prefer their post-show downtime wrapped in Scottish luxury.

Why Concert-goers love it

Though it’s not in the city center, Dalmahoy’s location makes it surprisingly convenient for concert-goers—especially those with a car or using rideshares. After a loud night at nearby venues, the peaceful countryside surroundings offer the perfect recovery zone. The hotel’s 12:00 PM check-out time is a bonus for sleeping in post-show, and the ample free parking is ideal for those driving in. The serene setting ensures quiet nights (after the loud ones), and the late-night bar and room service options mean the night doesn’t have to end when the encore does.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends wanting a scenic base near the city
- Solo travelers seeking a relaxing stay after a big gig
- Couples making a romantic weekend of a concert
- Fans looking for a quiet, comfortable place to unwind
- Budget-conscious music fans who prefer value for space and amenities over central location

Food and Drink Options

Dalmahoy has you covered whether you're craving fine dining or a casual bite. The award-winning Pentland Restaurant serves elegant meals with sweeping views of the golf course. For more relaxed dining, the Brasserie Restaurant and James Braid Bar offer hearty fare and drinks. While not 24/7, the hotel provides evening dining options and room service late enough to satisfy post-show hunger. Breakfast is available after a late night—perfect for those who need a slow start.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is more about relaxation than revelry, the James Braid Bar offers a laid-back spot for a drink before turning in. Head into Edinburgh (just 20 minutes away) for a broader mix of nightlife, including pubs, clubs, and live music venues. Afterward, Dalmahoy is the perfect retreat from the city buzz.

What People Say

Guests love the spacious rooms, lush surroundings, and top-notch leisure facilities. Many highlight the friendly staff and the relaxing atmosphere after busy days in the city. Travelers also appreciate the easy parking and quick access to main roads, making it convenient for evening events and late returns.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that because it's outside the city center, you'll need a car or taxi to get to most venues. Also, while the historic charm is appreciated, a few rooms could use minor modern updates. But if you're in it for the peace and amenities, these are easy trade-offs.

The Bottom Line

Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club is ideal for concert-goers who want a quiet, classy retreat after a night of music and energy.

Superficially looks good but not...

Liked: The grounds are lovely and the beds comfortable.
Disliked: Confusion about breakfast booking. Breakfast was poor. Lukewarm, squash instead of juice, stale pastries, terrible coffee and very expensive.

Very good

Liked: It has character and is in a great position to visit Edinburgh city centre and the coast. The rooms are a really nice size. The pool and gym are good.
Disliked: I feel the hotel could do with a little bit of an update with upholstery and the bathrooms in the rooms. I would have preferred to have a separate bath and shower. It would also be great if the rooms had air conditioning.

Overall, it was a nice...

Liked: The historic building is beautiful. The size of the room was great. They allowed us to check in a little early to get ready for our afternoon tea. The grounds of the hotel are very nice. It was clean. The pool was wonderful.
Disliked: The room was hot and stuffy, despite being relatively cool outside. The bathroom could use some updating. The "nature trail" was just a short sidewalk under some trees leading from the hotel to the parking lot.

Great place but rooms need...

Liked: Lovely the location and lovely golf course. Great breakfast. Lovely pool and leisure facilities. Bed comfortable.
Disliked: Room needed maintenance, window latch broken and shower switch not working. Bathroom silicone around basin peeling off. Milk, coffee and water not replenished daily only given once on day one. Not what one would expect from such a great establishment.

Amazing building with amazing views

Liked: Amazing building, we upgraded to one of the main house period rooms. It was the most fantastic room we have stayed in, in Scotland. The details were amazing. The view out the bedroom window was perfect.
Disliked: Only downside was I had no plug socket on my side of the bed. But just used the plug socket by the desk instead.
