Cumberland Hotel Guest Reviews

The Cumberland Hotel is a classically styled hotel set in two elegant Victorian buildings in Edinburgh’s West End. With its original period features, spacious rooms, and a relaxed atmosphere, it offers a blend of old-world charm and modern-day comfort. Just a short walk or bus ride from central venues and nightlife, it’s a smart pick for music lovers looking to stay close to the action without being immersed in the noise.
Location-wise, the Cumberland Hotel is a solid win. You’re within a 10-minute walk of Haymarket Station and major city venues like the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. The bus stop right outside makes late-night returns from gigs in the city centre a breeze. After the show, retreat to a quiet residential area for a peaceful night’s sleep. Plus, with a 3:00 PM check-in and 11:00 AM check-out, there’s enough flexibility to suit most travel plans.
You’ll get a proper start to your day with a full Scottish breakfast, plus continental and veggie options—ideal after a late night. While there’s no official late-night dining or 24/7 room service, the hotel has two bars and beer gardens for those evening wind-downs. And thanks to the West End location, there’s a good selection of walkable pubs and eateries nearby for pre- or post-show bites.
While the hotel doesn’t host live music itself, you're close to some of Edinburgh’s best venues and bars. The West End and nearby Lothian Road offer plenty of pubs, lounges, and music bars to explore. Back at the hotel, the resident lounge and beer gardens offer a relaxed way to keep the night going.
While the hotel has plenty of charm, it’s not ultra-modern—so don’t expect high-tech amenities or luxury finishes. Parking is limited and paid, so plan ahead if driving. Also, as it’s in historic buildings, there’s no elevator, which may be a consideration for guests with mobility concerns.
For concert-goers who want a classic Edinburgh stay with easy access to venues and a peaceful return after the show, the Cumberland Hotel hits the right notes.

Adequate for one night.
Liked: The location was very convenient, close to bus and tram stops and several restaurants. The bathroom was very clean.
Disliked: The curtains were falling off the curtain rails, the light and the fan in the bathroom initially would wouldn’t turn off although the staff were very helpful in fixing this problem. The WiFi was almost non existent in the room. Overall the decor in the room was showing its age, the chairs could do with a deep clean.

Very good
Liked: A quaint house with lovely rooms and a nice view. It was just what we needed although the bed was very very soft and the shower wasn't great. Otherwise the staff were helpful letting us leave our car a little longer than our checkout time.
