Despite some small issues, the...

Liked: The room was really well-sized and had a fantastic view of the water with a little balcony to step outside for a gentle breeze or let the air flow in. The room also had very good air conditioning which was easy to use, and a nice big TV with live channels and Beta Cast, as well as USB and HDMI ports. The bed was very comfortable and allowed for a good night's rest, and there was also a mini-fridge, which had a decent amount of space for drinks/snacks, and a room service menu with lots of options to choose from and options for room service between 10pm and 5am.Within walking distance, you have a Tesco Express, Nisa Local, and several nice restaurants, as well as the ExCeL, cable cars to the O2, and DLR/Elizabeth Line. London City Airport is quite close, but even with airplanes flying over, with the balcony door closed, it was barely noticeable. On the first floor there is also the Quad Health Club & Spa, which had a gym with a variety of fitness equipment, open from 6am until 10pm, along with a 1.2m deep pool downstairs and changing rooms with saunas and a poolside sauna, as well as a jacuzzi which was very nice after a good workout. The staff were very polite and well-mannered. Jules, who worked on reception helped get the balcony unlocked for our room, another member of staff made sure a broken bulb was replaced quickly the morning after we arrived, and room service did a great job. Didi was working mornings in the Quad Club when we were there and was always very friendly and helpful. It was easy to access the room with any of the 3 elevators, though one of the elevators is a bit harder to find, but there are signs for it in the Fremantle Bar & Kitchen, which itself was very nice, with a great design and lots of choices at the bar or during the breakfast service which was very well-staffed. The food itself was good quality and as it was a buffet breakfast you can get your money's worth very easily.
Disliked: Unfortunately, I did have to ask 3 times to eventually get the balcony door unlocked as the first two staff I asked seemed to forget, which was frustrating, but luckily it was eventually unlocked. The balcony is also Very small, approximately only 30cm from the wall to the railing, so it's a bit tricky if two or three people want to go out at once. The bathroom sink was functional to a point, but the design means the water doesn't really reach more than an inch or two from the back of the sink unless you use your hands, and even at full-power the water barely got beyond the plug hole. The design of the sink also makes it impossible to fill up and use for washing your face thoroughly, so be ready to splash water around or use the shower or bath. There weren't very many plugs in the room - 6 in total with 4 USB ports, 2 for either bedside table - so be prepared for that if you need many plugs for charging/using devices. Although the TV had a way to cast from devices, whether on my own 5G or the hotel Wi-Fi, it was constantly stuttering whenever used - even after reconnecting several times - which hasn't been the case at other hotels, so it was either an issue with the cast software or the physical TV, but there was no buffering issue when watching live TV. It would also disconnect randomly after playing a single video for a length of time, sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after an hour.Overall, despite these issues, I'd say the positives outweighed the negatives at Crowne Plaza, and I would definitely recommend it.
