The Spotlight on Craiglynne Hotel

Victorian Comfort Just Outside the Buzz of Inverness

Set on a peaceful private estate just a short stroll from the town center, the Craiglynne Hotel offers a charming and traditional Scottish stay. With its classic Victorian décor, roaring open fires, and sun-drenched garden room, this hotel blends old-world character with modern comforts – a cozy base for concert nights and countryside escapes alike.

Why Concert-goers love it

Concert fans love the Craiglynne Hotel for its quiet post-show atmosphere and proximity to Inverness and nearby Highland venues. After a night of live music, wind down by a crackling fire or take in the fresh air of the nearby Cairngorms. Though not in the heart of the city, it’s well-placed for road-trippers or those exploring the Highland gig scene by car. Late check-in from 3:00 PM gives plenty of pre-show flexibility.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a relaxing base before and after a show
  • Solo travelers after a peaceful stay while ticking off a bucket-list gig
  • Couples making a full Highland weekend of music and nature
  • Fans wanting quiet recovery time after a loud, late night
  • Budget-conscious travelers who prefer charm over frills

Food and Drink Options

The hotel’s restaurant serves traditional Scottish dishes, and the bar offers snacks and afternoon tea – ideal for winding down after a concert. While there's no 24/7 room service, the bar and sunroom areas are perfect for relaxed evening bites or a morning-after breakfast with garden views. Breakfast is available, even for those who sleep in a little after a late night.

Nightlife Options

While Craiglynne itself is more of a retreat than a party spot, it’s just a short walk or drive to local Highland pubs and Inverness nightlife. Want to keep the music going? Ask staff about spots with local folk sessions or live tunes nearby. Or bring the night home with a drink by the fire in the hotel’s cozy lounge.

What People Say

  • Guests love the traditional charm and warm staff welcome.
  • Many found the location peaceful and ideal for unwinding.
  • Reviewers highlight the characterful rooms and beautiful garden views.
  • Perfect for those wanting to escape the crowds after a concert.

Areas for Improvement

The Victorian charm comes with a few quirks – some rooms may feel a bit dated, and there’s no elevator, so pack light if you’re on an upper floor. Transport options are limited late at night, so having your own car or arranging a taxi ahead is a smart move.

The Bottom Line

If you’re heading to a concert in the Highlands and want a quiet, character-filled retreat to recharge after the show, Craiglynne Hotel hits the right notes.

Bummer. Would choose another location

Liked: The historic building was beautiful. I booked this property knowing the review score but wanted to give the benefit of the doubt.
Disliked: Upon arrival, there was no one at the front desk. I waited several minutes and still no one arrived even after I called. There was no bell to ring. Finally, the rest of my party came in and we waited some more. I finally called the phone number for the property and someone came to the lobby and desk, but did not apologize or acknowledge the wait. We decided to pay the £15 each for breakfast. Turns out, there were 3 coaches/ buses arriving and we had to have an assigned breakfast time. We couldn’t come when it was convenient for us. Our rooms were given, and once we got to the rooms, we realized they were not the same what was booked, so when I inquired, was told the pictures were for an example and not every room is Room XXX. This was disappointing but we decided to just go with what we were given. Our room had cracks in the ceiling and peeling paint, stains and dings in the wall. It was just very tired and dated feeling. Breakfast was mediocre and in our opinions, not worth the cost. All in all, I would not book this hotel again, sadly, and I really wanted to give a good score to boost their rating. I felt that as individuals were not given the same hospitality as the big tour bus. However, we had dinner at another hotel in town that was so friendly and accommodating. If I get to return to this lovely region, I’ll book at the neighboring property instead.

Good

Liked: Beautiful building in a really nice setting, with the park being a short walk across the road. Our room was spacious and clean, and the beds were comfortable. The reception room was beautiful, and from what I could see the dining room was too. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Disliked: It's an old building, so unfortunately the sash windows didn't keep out much noise from the traffic as our room was at the front of the hotel, or keep much heat in. No lock on our bathroom door, no blankets on the beds or in the wardrobe. We were given a very straight to the point check in with no info about dinner, breakfast or anything other than our room number really. I did ask about breakfast in the morning and was told that was because we picked room only when booking, even though paying for the breakfast was still an option.
