This award-winning B&B is located in Berwick-upon-Tweed an historic coastal town and the most northerly town in England. The old walls that surround the town are a 10-minute walk away and the ruins of the castle are also nearby. For over 400 years Berwick was a crucial area in the border wars between England and Scotland. It has numerous striking sights including bridges across the River Tweed and a number of pretty old buildings. Norham Castle which has been besieged at least 13 times in its history is a 15-minute drive from Cowrie Guest House. Rooms at Cowrie Guest House are elegant and traditionally furnished and each has a flat-screen TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Every room also benefits from a modern private bathroom with free toiletries. A home-cooked hearty breakfast is provided each morning. A wide range of restaurants eateries and cafes can be reached within 15 minutes' walk.

Ideal short stay

Liked: Close to station, able to leave bag after checkout.
Disliked: Room was illuminated from outside carpark lights and blackout curtains were struggling to cope. Found very few places to eat open in early June.Limoncello to be avoided as service is pants

Lovely accommodation, excellent breakfast and...

Liked: Central location -excellent for visiting the town centre without a car.
Disliked: If we had to make any comment here at all is the road is quite busy and a bit noisy but we used the fan provided and slept very well.

Exceptional

Liked: Great place to stay near the centre of Berwick. Easy free parking. Ian and Ruth are great hosts. Breakfast was incredible and plenty of choice, I had haggis one morning. Nice little touches made the stay even more enjoyable for us.
Disliked: There was absolutely nothing to dislike

Lovely guest house in a...

Liked: Great location to explore Berwick on foot, and further afield by car or bus/train. The room was compact but comfortable with everything we needed for a great stay. Lovely friendly hosts and attention to detail throughout the stay. Super clean and a great breakfast, nothing to fault!
Disliked: Nothing! All great!

A very clean bed and...

Liked: We loved the Cowrie Guest House, which has five ensuite double rooms,which are located on two floors, which are got to by flights of stairs. Our spacious room was the only room on the second floor with a jacuzzi bath and a separate walk in shower. Plenty of storage space is available. We had two easy chairs and another one in front of the dressing table. The bed was very comfortable with a medium mattress.

Excellent, friendly, welcoming .

Liked: We booked this at 1 hours notice b4 arrival. A great B&B with lots of nice touches in the room. We had room 3. Brekky was excellent, with a good choice and Ian was a great host. Excellent bathroom too. I would definitely stay here again.

Uber clean, comfortable, great breakfasts

Liked: This is a boutique guest house in an seventeenth century building. It was very comfortable and the breakfast food was impeccable served and delicious. The guest house is very clean. The two owners were bith very friendly and chatted with us.
Disliked: The worst thing that happened was that the bathroom got very steamy 🤭
