Had a very nice one night stay; would definitely return to this hotel; it's in a perfect location and didn't lack any commodity.
Liked: Clean; comfortable; quiet; location.
Disliked: No onsite parking; $40/day valet.

Updated classic hotel in the...
Liked: Nice older hotel that has been updated. Very comfortable room. Quiet. There is a pool table in the lobby, which I didn't use but I would have if I had been staying with someone.
Disliked: Overpriced breakfast. Got a lecture from a young man at the desk in the middle of my stay about how I should bring my passport if I want a new room key -- even though it was the the hotel that caused my problem by deactivating my room key without telling me. My passport was in the room. Oh well. Also I couldn't rely on desk staff to help me with restaurants, which seemed odd for a hotel like this.

Really nice hotel but the...
Liked: Nice historic building in the center of downtown. The hotel has comfortable rooms, a pool table in the lobby and a nice bar.
Disliked: San Diego has abandoned its responsibilities to the homeless, who now live on the streets downtown. They are not threatening but the neighborhood, once gorgeous, is now a mess. Downtown business owners like the Marriott should be outraged. In the meantime, instead of helping the homeless, the city is throwing its resources into rebuilding Horton Plaza. Why?
