Very disappointing!
Liked: the location - right on the beach
Disliked: Our room had at least 10 mosquitos that we had to get rid of after being bitten several times. I have stayed several times in Vero Beach in different locations on the beach (the Ocean Reef, Driftwood) and NEVER have had to deal with mosquitos in my room. For the price and the prestige of this hotel, that is completely unacceptable, extremely disappointing!!! Was looking forward so much to a wonderful experience but left not wanting to come back again!! =0(

Beautiful beach week
Liked: Excellent location. Friendly staff. Beautiful pool. Just wish they could have a good gluten protocol. We would go every year.
Disliked: No gluten labeling on the menu. Staff was not able to discuss options. That's incredibly dangerous for those of us who can't eat gluten, so I ate nothing.

Liked: it?s a former Howard Johnson?s, so it has a familiarity when you arrive and walk around. The beach and pool area are nice.
Disliked: They don?t like Booking.com apparently. Was told that I should have contacted the property directly to make a reservation rather than Booking.com. So my trip was unique in that I?d flown in my plane, down to Port St. Lucie to purchase another Mastiff. Upon arrival a number of problems had arisen, causing me not only to have to spend the night, but borrow the breeder?s car in order to get from place to place. The car?a 2006 Honda Element. (More on that later).So we?d gone to Booking because we?d needed to find a pet-friendly, balcony room within 20 miles of the airport. The only other way to do this would be to call every hotel on the list, which is why the hotel?s advice is irritating. This hotel was the highest rated and ?seemed? to have the room we were looking for then?.all of a sudden?.We?d pulled up to the hotel?s lobby in the Element, and the looks and stares were hilarious. My wife and I both began our lives poor. We?ve worked for everything we have and so we don?t appreciate folks who put on ?airs.? While working with the front desk girl, (I say girl because I think she?s 16 or 17,) She?d indicated that the type of room I?d expected was not the type of room I was getting. Specifically that there was no balcony room available and I should have called the hotel ahead of time. I laughed because at $950 for one night, I?d quipped that it should have a view of the ocean. Her response??well see this is a very expensive hotel and you really should have called before coming.? I was livid and asked for my money back and of course it wasn?t possible, so we?d stayed in that snobatorium, only as long as we?d had to and flown home the next day. Now, let?s add to this experience the soap scum from a year of sitting in the bathroom. Bugs all over the desk in the room, and a musty odor. I?d broken down on the road in Vermillion, Ohio once in 1987. Spent the night in a motel with a pay phone in the room. Had breakfast with the owner the next day.Better there!

Overall the hotel was overpriced...
Liked: On the beach and location
Disliked: Restaurant staff was rude, while we were still eating our dinner the waitress tells us the kitchen is closed and if we want desert it's now or never. Was 10pm on a Saturday. Our reservation was at 8:45. Not sure why they offer reservations at that time if they are going to kick you out promptly at kitchen closing time! The calamari and shrimp was not fresh and barely edible. Pool restaurant service was also awful, the beach service was nice.
