The Spotlight on Corstorphine Lodge Hotel

Victorian Charm with Easy City Access

A classic and cozy retreat in the heart of Edinburgh’s western suburbs, the Corstorphine Lodge Hotel blends historic elegance with modern convenience. Housed in a striking 1880s stone-built villa, this hotel sits along the A8, a direct route between Edinburgh Airport and the city center. With its lovely Victorian walled gardens and tranquil vibes, it's a great base for exploring the city — especially if you're here for a concert.

Why Concert-goers love it

Located just a 15-minute bus ride from central Edinburgh, this hotel places you within easy reach of top music venues while offering a peaceful escape after the show. A bus stop right outside the hotel makes late-night returns simple, and the quiet residential setting ensures a restful night. While check-in starts at 15:00 and checkout is at 11:00, the staff is known for being friendly and accommodating when possible.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends who want to stay somewhere affordable but with character
- Solo travelers catching a dream gig and needing reliable transport
- Couples looking to mix music and a romantic weekend
- Fans craving quiet after the noise and energy of the crowd
- Budget-conscious music lovers who still want a stylish stay

Food and Drink Options

While Corstorphine Lodge doesn’t have an on-site restaurant, you’ll find plenty of walkable eateries and pubs nearby along St John’s Road. Each room includes tea, coffee, and biscuits — perfect for a late-night snack. Breakfast is available in the morning, ideal for those recovering from a late gig.

Nightlife Options

Though there’s no bar on-site, you’re just a stroll away from classic Edinburgh pubs offering local ales and a friendly atmosphere. Want something livelier? Hop on a bus back into the city for late-night bars and clubs near Princes Street or Cowgate.

What People Say

Guests love the historic character, friendly staff, and easy transport links. Reviewers often highlight the peaceful setting, clean rooms, and the charming garden views. Many say it’s a hidden gem for those not needing to be right downtown.

Areas for Improvement

Some rooms are a bit dated in decor, and the lack of an elevator means stairs may be a challenge for some. If you’re planning a late night out, note that there’s no 24-hour front desk — but the team is helpful and flexible when you let them know in advance.

The Bottom Line

A relaxing and affordable stay with vintage charm, just a quick ride from Edinburgh’s best live music venues.

Definitely will not stay again.

Liked: Could not get breakfast because had to be booked the night. Nothing worth talking about.
Disliked: Room on 2nd floor no lift. Looked like it was old staff accommodation. A staircase access which might not get modern day planning permission.

Not worth the cost

Liked: The beds are very comfortable and location is ok with bus stop right out front that takes you right to all tourist destinations.
Disliked: Staff was aloof and never told us options for meals and refused us breakfast even though we were willing to pay. They made the beds but keft the trash in room and used bath towels.

Bad

Liked: Location and just that. It's close to city and airport and good bus connections
Disliked: - Room nothing like as described in the booking and neither in the building in the description. FRAUD dealing - It ruined our holiday really, as we couldn't sleep, couldn't have a hot shower and avoided spending anytime in the room at all, as it was this dingy boxroom with one sky window, despite booking a twin room, with garden view!!- Pine beds that creaked badly at the slightest movement and coil spring mattresses. We couldn't get any sleep at all - Mouldy bathroom , I have taken photos!- Shower which is a safety hazard as we got scalded by the ridiculously high temperature of the water. Definitely something that the hotel need to address ASAP-Absolutely indifferent and cold response from staff. Once they have pocketed the money via booking.com, they don't care about anything that you say or give impractical suggestions and explanations. They have zero interest in helping you have a good stay. I did try to raise all the things with them, during my stay.- I note a previous review about staff offering no help while the guest was trying to carry their luggage. I saw something similar and this guest was managing luggage and a child and this staff member was standing there offering no help whatsoever. - The place is in serious need of upkeep and staff training and health and safety management and honouring the booking that has been paid for.

Passable

Liked: Access to public transportation
Disliked: Extremely uncomfortable bed. The sink in the bathroom was extremely small, understandable for a tight space, but it made for an uncomfortable use. Overall very tight layout.
