Columbia River Hotel Ascend Hotel Collection

It was my husband's birthday weekend. We went to the concert at Maryhill which was great! Unfortunately when we got to our hotel room, it was outdated, and the bed was awful. We will never stay at another Shilo Inn.

Disliked: Out dated; terrible bed.

We enjoyed our stay here! It was outdated but was clean and offered all the amenities of any other hotel nearby. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Disappointing

Liked: Nice property. Terrible customer service.
Disliked: When checking in the property the front desk lady was unfriendly and rude. She sent us to an uncleaned room and when I walked all the way back with luggage and told her, she was even worse. She told me I’d have to move rooms and I said that I would absolutely not move rooms because I paid for a clean room for myself to stay in. We asked for more clean towels halfway through the stay as there was no cleaning staff that came through daily. When we asked she gave us one and said they didn’t have more towels. I had to take one off a random cart on the way back to my room. Although the property is nice, I would not stay again if the staff was that rude.

Poor

Liked: Outdoor seating area, location, bar and grill and pool tables.
Disliked: Check in time was 4:00 and wasn't able to get into the room until 5:30. When we did get to the room it wasn't ready. The beds hadn't been made, trash hadn't been empty and dirt on the floor. Had to go back to the front desk and we got moved to a different room that was cleaned and ready. The shower in the morning had luke warm water yet the two sinks in the room had extremely hot water. The hotel was packed and it appeared that there was a extreme shortage of staff for that volume of people. Went to the bar to play some pool only after the fact that we wanted to get a cocktail to take back to the room and we're told no because there wasn't anybody there to walk us back to our room with an alcoholic drink and we were not able to do it on our own. The food was good and the staff was friendly in there again appeared to be a shortage of staff for the volume of people at the hotel that day. At the front of the building there was no clear access for Ada no signs pointing to a location for anybody disabled to be able to get into the building, and the one spot that was accessible for somebody in a wheelchair was out of the way and with no signs pointing to how they could get into the building. The Landscaping was rough even though it appeared people were working on it until late in the evening. Again appears to be shortage of staff.

Superb

Liked: The lobby was comfortable and the windows had a beautiful view of the dam and river. The room was clean and nice with a sliding door out to the pool area and towards the river. The Restaurant,Portage Grill, on site had good food and very comfortable for friends and family to gather.
Disliked: The website said there were bikes to rent and the staff didn't have any clue about bike rentals and acted like I didn't know what I was talking about.

Adequate experience but would not...

Liked: I liked the location and the staff was friendly.
Disliked: I didn’t like that it advertised continental breakfast and there wasn’t one. I was also disappointed by the gym—very small and not a lot of equipment.

Superb

Liked: Your staff was exceptionally gracious and helpful. Elle even helped my injured husband with our bags and Danny, the maintenance man, even blew up my air mattress! Please let them know I appreciated their kindness and time!

Good

Luxury along the Columbia.

Liked: Well known local hotel that was getting tired and needed a facelift, and boy what a facelift it got. Absolutely beautiful.
Disliked: First- the floors. Then the coffee shop. Those lime green chairs are also comfy.

Liked: Love the swimming pool and fire pit areas.
Disliked: I wish they had provided shade at the swimming pool area with umbrellas at the tables but we were told they didn't currently have any available.
