The Spotlight on Columba Hotel Inverness by Compass Hospitality

Classic Charm with a Riverside View in the Heart of Inverness

A beautifully grand hotel with a historic façade, Columba Hotel Inverness by Compass Hospitality offers a tranquil stay right in the center of town. Overlooking the River Ness and Inverness Castle, this hotel blends traditional comfort with modern style. With bright, airy rooms and a warm Scottish welcome, you’ll feel both relaxed and well-connected to the city’s cultural pulse.

Why Concert-goers love it

You’re just a short walk from central Inverness music venues, yet tucked away on a peaceful street to ensure a quiet night’s sleep after the encore. The hotel’s late check-in at 15:00 and convenient 11:00 check-out give you flexibility for pre-show naps or long lie-ins. Free Wi-Fi throughout means you can share setlists and concert pics with ease.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends heading to a gig together
  • Solo travelers chasing a bucket-list performance
  • Couples turning a concert into a weekend getaway
  • Fans seeking a quiet recovery spot after a loud night
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who still want comfort and style

Food and Drink Options

You won't go hungry here. The on-site Victoria Restaurant serves a daily-changing 3-course menu, and John Macnab's Bar & Bistro offers fresh, satisfying meals in a relaxed setting. During warmer months, dine al fresco on the terrace with views of the river and castle — perfect for a pre-show meal or post-concert wind-down. While there's no 24/7 room service, the central location means late-night eateries are just a stroll away.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself offers a calm vibe perfect for unwinding, you're within easy walking distance of lively Inverness pubs and music bars. Whether you're after a dram of local whisky or a low-key acoustic set, you’ll find plenty of options nearby.

What People Say

Guests rave about the unbeatable location, especially the views of Inverness Castle and the River Ness. Many highlight the friendly staff and the classic-meets-modern décor. The quiet setting, despite being central, is often praised by those wanting a restful night after a show.

Areas for Improvement

Some reviewers mention that the building, while full of character, is a bit older, so expect charming quirks rather than sleek minimalism. A few rooms could benefit from minor updates, but most agree the comfort and location outweigh these small issues.

The Bottom Line

A scenic and serene home base just minutes from Inverness’s music scene — perfect for concert-goers who want charm, convenience, and a restful night.

Very Good - 4.0 out of 5

Right in the tourist centre...

Liked: The hotel was easily found down the hill from the railway station and perfectly located next to the River Ness, very near to the cathedral and opposite the castle. The cycle path running to the Ness Canal and Loch Ness are right in front. There is a selection of places to eat and drink in the surrounding area. We had breakfast in the hotel.
Disliked: The room had to be changed from a double as I had asked for twin beds and was offered a room for disabled guests. This was fine but a few minor maintenance items let the bathroom down.We looked down onto an untidy kitchen yard.
