Colfax Inn by Marifah

Cleanliness seemed only in lobby and dining area. Concern for safety with unlocked access doors. This room cost $111.00 - very costly for the condition. We purchased lodging on line through a site we trusted to provide quality conditions. We stayed because we felt it was our only choice, we arrived at 11:30pm.

Liked: Checking clerk friendly; breakfast was okay; location.
Disliked: Original non smoking room lock not working on door - could only be opened with master key. Given a room that had been smoked in. Not clean. Hallways dirty. Many rooms had silver tape over locks. Security lock on outside door had tape over so anyone could enter. Pool not available. Hot tub had boards over it. Our room had the smoke detector taken apart. I have pictures if you want. Also hardly any toilet paper, no Kleenex, 1/2 full shampoo bottle.

Liked: Weird experience. On checking in the desk clerk asked for my license and telephone number. He proceeded to make a copy of my drivers license - on questioning the reason for those actions he stated “It’s required by Iowa law” Now, I’m waiting to learn the consequences - will my license be used without my permission?
Disliked: Management, leaking faucet, inoperable TV, the adage applies- “You get what you pay paid for”

Bad

Disliked: No one at the desk sign on the counter on break check in 3 it was 140pm. Abandoned cars in parking lot broken window we didn't not stay there. Request refund.

Poor

Disliked: The room wasn't clean, so I moved to a different room. The whole building didn't smell good. The ice machine broke. The back entrance door was unlocked. Nobody was behind the desk any time I was there. No wi-fi. No t.v. The AC in the room didn't work very well. Pool was closed.Very disappointed

Gross, dirty, cheap

Liked: It was close to the highway and cheap.
Disliked: It was dirty. The clerk was unsettling. Their breakfast service was discontinued. The elevator was broken. The pool was closed. The tub was stained and dirty. The floor was dirty enough to stain my socks. The highway noise was loud. The mattress was covered in plastic. The blanket was thin. The AC didn’t get very cool. The room type I requested didn’t lock, so they put me in a smaller room. The facial tissue box was empty. It looked like the hotel was barely holding on and on the verge of closing down.

I do not recommend staying...

Liked: The beds are super comfortable and relaxing. The one bedroom is very spacious and the fridge/freezer works very well. The manager Waheed is very sweet, humorous, and very customer oriented.
Disliked: I have had times my fiance had gotten threatened by the employee. He threatened my fiance that he was going to knock him out because he had surgery, and my fiance was working for him while he healed from it. He has inappropriately touched females. Unless you want to be his taxi driver as well with no pay, I don't recommend having kids or adults stay here. He is very hostile and violent when he doesn't get his way with everything. He is horrible to his manager, and I've had to call the cops to talk with him.

Disliked: Potato chips all over floor food on ceiling

Don't recommend, won't be returning.

Liked: It was easy to get to. That's really the only thing it has going for it.
Disliked: Was charged a substantially higher price when I actually got to the hotel, nearly double the estimate. Half of the listed amenities were unavailable. Ridiculously high price for absurdly low quality.
