The Spotlight on Claremont Resort & Club

Upscale Bay Area Retreat Just Minutes from the Music

Modern charm meets historic elegance at the Claremont Resort & Club—a 5-star resort perched in the hills of Berkeley. Just 2 miles from the University of California and under 5 miles from Oakland’s top concert venues, this resort blends luxury with convenience. With its lush gardens, serene spa vibes, and sweeping views of the Bay, it’s the perfect base for music lovers looking to unwind in style.

Guests enjoy access to an outdoor pool, fitness center, hot tub, and on-site dining serving American, French, and local cuisine. Whether you're planning a concert weekend or a rejuvenating escape, Claremont offers both excitement and tranquility.

Why Concert-goers love it

Located less than 5 miles from iconic venues like the Fox Theater and Paramount Theater, Claremont Resort & Club keeps your concert night logistics simple. After a high-energy show, retreat to a peaceful room—some with city views—and enjoy a 12:00 PM checkout for a slow morning recovery. Late-night Ubering is easy thanks to its prime location just off major roads, and the 24-hour reception means you’ll never arrive to a locked door.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends wanting a luxurious base with space to chill
  • Solo travelers treating themselves to a bucket-list performance
  • Couples making it a romantic concert weekend
  • Fans who prefer a serene post-show recovery space
  • Budget-conscious fans looking to splurge for one night of luxury

Food and Drink Options

Fuel up or wind down at the on-site restaurant, serving American, French, and local dishes with vegetarian and gluten-free options. Room service is available, and the à la carte breakfast is ideal for late risers. While there’s no 24/7 dining, downtown Berkeley's eateries are a short ride away if you crave a midnight bite.

Nightlife Options

Though the resort itself is more about relaxation than revelry, you’re just a quick drive from buzzing nightlife in Oakland and Berkeley—think live jazz lounges, wine bars, and dance clubs. Prefer to stay in? Grab a local craft cocktail at the hotel bar and enjoy the view.

What People Say

Guests rave about the stunning location, historic architecture, and first-class amenities. Many love the peaceful atmosphere after a night out and compliment the friendly multilingual staff. The spacious rooms and plush bedding also get high marks for comfort.

Areas for Improvement

The main downside? It’s a bit of a splurge—more luxury retreat than budget stay. Some guests mention that the resort is a bit older in spots, though most agree the charm outweighs any quirks. Parking is limited and comes with a fee, so plan accordingly.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers who want the best of both worlds—easy access to the music and a luxurious place to recharge—Claremont Resort & Club hits all the right notes.

Beautiful historic hotel!

Liked: Really lovely old historic hotel with great views of the bay. The junior suite was a very large comfortable room, and the grounds, pool, and gym area (which includes a sauna, steam room and hot tub) were very nice and kept in good condition.
Disliked: If you’re looking for views, make sure to book a bay view room. We booked a junior suite because the pictures online made it look like there were views of the bay, but it turns out the junior suites are on the lower floors and we only had a partial view of the bay. Also on nice weekends the pool area gets really crowded with members of the gym which is open to the public. We had trouble finding a seat around the pool, so it’s too bad they don’t make hotel guests more of a priority. However, it was the first really sunny weekend in May so it may not be that busy all year round. It did quiet down and get less busy in the late afternoon/early evening and it is a very nice pool area.

Great Rooms, Great Location, NOT...

Liked: My friends and I stayed at the Claremont for one night and felt the staff were genuinely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The grounds and the historic hotel are charming. The room felt large and comfortable a bit dark and beat up, maybe starting to feel dated, at least in our case but I don't think that is every room is dark. The staff did do everything possible to make us comfortable.
Disliked: Breakfast at the hotel was pretty flavorless and very pricey for being not so great. If I ever stayed here again I would eat elsewhere and just use the hotel for its rooms, gym, and spa. Skip the food as it is overpriced and all 3 of us got different meals and all disliked our tasteless food. Also the price of the hotel room is overpriced for how dated and beatup the rooms feel.

Enjoyable Visit With My Berkley...

Liked: The room decor was very nice. I especially enjoyed the very comfy bed and linens. The room that they gave me didn't have much of a view but the hotel facilities overall was very nice. The bathroom had a light timer on it and while I was in the shower all the lights turned off. That made for a funny moment while I tried to find the switch to turn the lights back on in the pitch black in an unfamiliar setting. There was a wedding the evening that I arrived. The hotel had plenty of parking and I didn't hear any party noises from my room. It was fun to I had a very delicous Sunday brunch with my son on the hotel's restaurant. It was very busy but the staff was very friendly and overall we had a good experience!
Disliked: I wish I could have stayed longer. I tried to book again for parent's weekend but they were sold out and the prices were triple for the same room.
