The Spotlight on City View Hotel Roman Road

Budget-Friendly Base in East London with Easy Access to Live Music

Modern and minimalist, City View Hotel Roman Road offers a no-fuss, wallet-friendly stay in the heart of Bethnal Green. Located just a 5-minute walk from Bethnal Green Underground Station and close to Cambridge Heath Rail Station, this hotel keeps you well connected to Central London and major venues like the O2 Arena and Greenwich. With a 24-hour reception and rooms equipped with flat-screen TVs and DVD players, it's a solid choice for music lovers looking for a simple crash pad.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is key here — you're less than 30 minutes by tube from some of London's biggest music venues. After the encore, the night tube or late trains from Central London get you back easily. The 24-hour front desk also means there’s no stress about late check-ins after a long night out. While it’s not the quietest spot in London, the area is authentic East London and full of local charm.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for affordable digs near the action
  • Solo travelers chasing their dream gig
  • Couples turning a concert into a weekend trip
  • Fans who want a basic, quiet place to wind down
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who’d rather spend on merch than hotels

Food and Drink Options

While the hotel doesn’t have an on-site restaurant, the surrounding area is full of walkable eateries offering everything from late-night kebabs to trendy cafes. There’s no 24/7 room service, but you’re only a short stroll from food options even after midnight. Several local spots offer brunch-style breakfasts perfect for a post-gig lie-in.

Nightlife Options

You're in East London — one of the city’s liveliest areas for nightlife. Nearby Shoreditch and Hackney are packed with bars, clubs, and live music venues. Prefer to keep it low-key? There are plenty of cozy local pubs and cocktail spots within walking distance.

What People Say

Guests love the value for money and the hotel’s excellent transport links. Many reviewers note the helpfulness of the 24-hour staff and the convenience of nearby public transport. Rooms are described as basic but clean, with good TV setups for unwinding after a show.

Areas for Improvement

Rooms can be on the smaller side, and some economy rooms use shared bathrooms—so it’s worth booking a standard room if you want added privacy. Noise from the street or other guests is occasionally mentioned, so light sleepers might want to pack earplugs.

The Bottom Line

If you're after a no-frills, affordable place to stay with easy access to London's top music venues, City View Hotel Roman Road hits the right note.

Rodger F, London, visiting ABBA Arena Sun, 3 July 2022

The room was dirty; the shower head wouldn't attach to the shower; there was no hot water and no plug in the sink; there was dust everywhere and smelt musty. Someone from the company needs to make a surprise visit to the hotel, they would be horrified.

Kind of... Disappointed

Liked: The staff was very nice and helpful. However, I had to purchase cleaning products to clean the bathroom, the toilets. After certain time there was no bath mat in the bathroom, if there was a bath math ... It would be mucky and soaked... and we ended up with bedbugs we ended up saving on the stay but then having to spend for our health and to make our home safe for our entire family. Shame. Very poor hygiene, the room was very dusty and we came back after our first day out and our bedroom door was opened ...We had to empty our bins every day and and fresh towels only provided on our first day ...Also there was an opened "sky window" that we could not closed. The room was so dusty that we had to remove the shield protector from the fan to wipe the dust of the pals in order for us to use it. Also , we could here every noise of the traffic, police siren ( as it is near a police station) The advert did specify to bring your own bed sheets ... This does not stop contamination. Maybe, a bit of TLC and structural management / housekeeping will help profit and less negative reviews? Unless this is a commercial strategy

Dont waste your money

Liked: Nothing
Disliked: Booked months in advance, requested 2 twin rooms for 4 guests. When we arrived they gave me a twin room and a double room - No contact from them to say of any changes. Not what I wanted, not happy to accept. Was offered another double room foc. On the website it has a photo of a twin room with a kettle and decently decorated. What we got was more like something from the film "Taken". I was in a 'double' room under the stairs with a tiny skylight window, a smelly fridge, a fan on the wall and a chair. (I considered praying for Liam Neeson to come rescue me.) I asked the manager where I could get a cup of tea from, he pointed and said "cafe across the road". My fellow guests were just as apprehensive, upstairs in the twin room, there was a fridge in a worse condition than the one in my room, no kettle, and a feeling of being watched. Their shared bathroom was filthy with toothpaste over the sink and toilet, the shower curtain was stained brown at the bottom. And these were just the noticeable areas as you opened the door. They didn't bother to go in any further. Back downstairs, the other double room had small dark curly hairs on the bed, and one of those old fashioned foldable wooden dressing screens - as a curtain from the main road. Needless to say, we didn't stay there.

Not a very nice place.

Liked: The bed was clean and reasonably comfortable and location with short walk to bethenel green tube station.
Disliked: Be aware there are 2 hotels on same street with same name. I almost got charged twice for my stay as payment was made through this app and then they tried to take payment again on arrival. But was refunded second payment upon questioning this. The room was hot and stuffy with no windows to open. The only toilet was a communal toilet which smelt worse than public toilets. I never tried the shower as didn't want to risk it. No thge room was basic and very out dated. If you leave for the evening you have to hand you key back into reception and then it's left on the desk which is a security risk. My friend has made a booking at this venue for later in the year but that has now been cancelled due to the poor standards at this venue.

A place to crash out...

Liked: There wasn't much that I liked. There was a fan inside my room, so I liked that. There was also a tired looking fridge inside the room, so I'll give a point each for those.
Disliked: The shower had no towels provided so I had to drip dry, the downstairs bathroom stank of urine and my room felt more like a prison cell than a room. Let's be real, most other countries would have luxury rooms with all the bells and whistles for £40 a night. It's a lot of money for a night in the cells
