Great central location, let down...

Liked: Great central location to see all sites by foot
Disliked: Undergoing renovations making access to hotel difficult, and amenities within hotel confusing

Poor

Liked: Location
Disliked: I understand that there is current renovations going on but that doesn't excuse the dirt of the hotel. Hallways where dirty. Carpets not cleans walls damaged and marked . Lifts where rough and didn't meet the expectation of the city hotel I had imagined. The price didn't meet the current standard of the hotel and for it not to include breakfast with the current state of hotel was not great. On arrival the shock we got at the car park with unwrapped bed mattress standing on car park floor and furniture everywhere. Then a make shift reception with a bed sheet as a back ground was very cheap looking. The fact there was renovations going on did not put us off as we have stayed in hotels with this going on before but you wouldn't know. Unfortunately it was very obvious at the city hotel and has out us off staying in the future

Bad

Liked: Room was lovely and the staff were great
Disliked: Looking at the recent reviews I guess we aren't the only ones that received a disappointing visit .We got engaged at the hotel and used the presidential suite and had an absolutely fantastic experience..This time awful. We paid £350 for one of the executive suites, the room itself was lovely except for the view there's enough walls in Derry without seeing nothing but a wall from both windows .Over the previous month I had been to the hotel and phoned saying we were having a group of friends for our anniversary .we were helped by the staff to take up flower arrangements and balloons etc. We had 5 couples including ourselves who came we are all in our 50s with no children. Most of the group were bin drinkers .They arrived at 8.00 .there was no music or tv .At 9.50 we were told that the people in the adjoining room couldn't sleep .This was early for a Saturday night City Centre bar .we were only talking .we had to leave the room and go to the bar We tried to make the most of it but honestly our night was ruined .everyone left after 12 the singer was at best karaoke and the drink exorbitant. Queuing for a lift was the only highlight .Breakfast was mediocre for a 4 star hotel and when I spoke to the receptionist who I think was a manager I was told they had to respect their guests who wanted to go to bed early as they may have had an early start .I was a guest as well but it didn't matter .We were given an adjoining room when we they were told we would have guests. I'm sure our guests will never use this hotel again and neither will we it was an expensive disaster. With so many other establishments around you must be doing really well to treat people poorly or is awh sure we got paid let them complain look at your last 20 reviews City Hotel maybe you need to change your attitude .The follow up call with the duty manager was even worse who lied or mis spoke as he said awful experience would never go back
