Bad
Liked: I booked a room before arriving in Auckland and when I arrived at the hostel, it was closed. I saw someone who told me the hostel was under renovation. Still on booking though. Very bad.
Disliked: Everything. Don't go there

Poor
Liked: There seems to be a problem with some of the residents here, verbal violence towards each other and shortly after I stayed there was a stabbing. I was in my own space, upstairs but still no good. A shame really.
Disliked: See above

Pleasant
Liked: It was great vulue for money considering the location. A little spruce up and a few more comforts wouldn't go amiss but I'm not complaining

Cute and cozy room. Difficult to check in and out of.
Liked: The room was very cute and cozy.
Disliked: The reception wasnt open when it said it would be in the email I received so we had to wait an hour to check in. In the morning the staff was supposed to be there at 9am but when we went to checkout they werent there and we needed to ask them to get the other customer to move their car because it was blocking ours.

Liked: The night manager was friendly and helpful.
Disliked: The ad gives the impression that the double room with ensuite is in the historic house but it is over the garage. We booked here because they offered free off-street parking and indicated that this was needed but the managers use the parking space leaving little room for customers. The bathroom was not the cleanist and we had to ask for a rubbish bin and soap for the hand basin. When checking out there was no one available to take the room key so we left it with another guest (not ideal but no option as we had to leave and catch our flight.

Really only if you can't find anything else in Parnell and you have to stay there.
Liked: Bed was comfortable and sheets were clean and crisp. Quiet location, good for sleep. WiFi good. Great location; easy walk to Parnell eateries and bars. It was a loft with it's own shower, and was very roomy.
Disliked: I get this is budget accomodation and didn't have high expectations accordingly, but as you go up the stairs to the room a crappy old towel that's seen better days is hooked over the window. At the top of the stairs one of the first things you see is all of the dust and fluff under the bed. I had my shower and the floor flooded with grey water from the drain; I asked for this to be cleaned out, and when I had my next shower the next morning, same again. I don't expect a palace for this price, it was very reasonable, but cleanliness and pride are still important. There's an old rail but no coat hangers (which makes sense as when I tried to hang my jacket on it it collapsed to the side), and everything is old, pitted, scratched and/or damaged. This place needs some investment and attention to cleaning badly. You can see the potential as otherwise it's a cool old building that's slightly "Addams Family" quirky.
