The Spotlight on Chicago Athletic Association part of Hyatt

Historic Vibes and Rooftop Views in the Heart of Chicago

Modern amenities meet vintage charm at the Chicago Athletic Association part of Hyatt, a landmark hotel overlooking Millennium Park. With its high-spirited club atmosphere, athletic-themed décor, and unbeatable downtown location, this hotel is a favorite for travelers looking to catch a concert and soak up the city’s energy. Guests can expect Egyptian cotton linens, 42-inch flat-screen TVs, complimentary WiFi, and quirky touches like vintage athletic gear in every room.

This former private club turned boutique hotel is just steps from cultural icons like the Art Institute of Chicago and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Whether you're in town for a big show or a weekend of music and exploration, you'll be right in the middle of it all.

Why Concert-goers love it

You’re within walking distance of some of Chicago’s most iconic performance spaces, so there’s no need to stress about traffic or parking. The hotel’s buzzing lobby and rooftop bar offer the perfect pre- or post-concert gathering spots. Despite its central location, rooms are well-insulated for a quiet night’s sleep after a loud show. Bonus: check-out isn’t until noon, so you can sleep in after a late night out.

Who this Hotel is great for

Groups of friends who want to hang out in the game room or grab late-night burgers at Shake Shack
Solo travelers looking to explore concert halls and historic Chicago
Couples planning a romantic night out with skyline views from Cindy’s
Fans seeking a quieter space to wind down in a cozy, stylish room
Budget-conscious music lovers who want luxury touches without splurging on a mega-chain

Food and Drink Options

Fuel up for the night or wind down after with several on-site options. The always-popular Shake Shack is located right in the hotel and even offers room service for those late-night cravings. Cindy’s rooftop restaurant serves up seasonal dishes and craft cocktails with sweeping views of the city. Breakfast is available on-site, perfect for a slow start after a big night out.

Nightlife Options

Sip cocktails at Cindy’s rooftop bar while taking in Lake Michigan views, or unwind with a game of bocce or billiards in the social games room. Plenty of downtown bars, lounges, and live music spots are just a few blocks away, making it easy to keep the night going.

What People Say

Guests love the hotel’s historic charm blended with modern flair, especially the elegant rooms and friendly, helpful staff. Reviews frequently mention the incredible location just steps from top attractions and venues. The rooftop bar is a consistent favorite, offering some of the best views in the city.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that the vibe can get a bit lively and loud in common areas, especially on weekends. Rooms facing the street may hear a little city noise, so pack earplugs if you're a light sleeper. Also, while the hotel offers upscale amenities, prices at the rooftop bar can lean toward the premium side.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers who want a stylish, centrally located hotel with great food, strong vibes, and walkable access to venues, the Chicago Athletic Association part of Hyatt hits all the right notes.

We loved this historic property...

Liked: Historic property with many enjoyable details. Bed was great. AC worked well. Privacy was very good. Design of unit (Jr. King Suite) was spacious, well laid out. Nice location across from Millennium Park. Drawing Room was both a fun place to dine or hang out.
Disliked: The one TV that faced bed did not allow for one person to sleep while another person watched TV from either the living or the dining area.

A spacious, comfortable room in...

Liked: The junior suite was spacious and comfortable and the building has a pleasant art deco feel. The location was convenient for the finish line of the half-marathon, in which our son was running, which was the main reason for choosing it.
Disliked: The fridge didn’t work: we called the front desk to request an engineer and were told that it wasn’t actually a fridge! 🤷‍♀️This was found to be completely untrue when we asked for milk and ice to be brought up and the person who delivered it said that of course it was a fridge and that it should be working. Given the extremely hot weather, this was very inconvenient. Our half bottle of white wine (which we had to cool for an hour in the ice bucket on our first evening) was not replenished by housekeeping the next day and when we asked for a replacement (early) evening, we were told that there were no housekeeping staff on duty. It never was replaced. The lounge area downstairs was very cold and draughty and the menu extremely limited for food. It was impossible to get a table at Cindy’s rooftop bistro even though I tried to reserve one online and through Reception several weeks in advance. The queues were enormous every day.

Very poor

Liked: Location was great. Bellman was terrific.
Disliked: Hotel manager and the concierge on Saturday evening were a disaster, giving me the wrong information about taxi service on Sunday..Trying to book a room directly with the hotel rather than through a booking agent. Took me over 40 minutes to make contact even with a voice and then another 10 minutes to locate Central Hyatt reservation services. I'll not use Hyatt again

Very disappointing

Liked: Location was great and vibe is very cool.
Disliked: Terrible noisy room close to street level. Complained but wasn’t able to move us until the next night. They really should have comped our room but gave us nothing.
