Cherry Valley Hotel BW Premier Collection, Newark

After having booked a room many many months in advance, missed a call from the hotel two hours before check in. When we showed up was told the AC had went out and they didn't want to rent the room. Offered no solutions or other accommodations. So we were left scrambling to find a room the week of the 4th of July at last minute.

Liked: My room was really nice and the vibe and look of the main entrance.

Liked: Able to bring our therapy dog.
Disliked: Not being told about the $75 cost for our therapy dog.

Liked: The location is convenient for events at Denison University, but there's really no other reason to stay at this rather worn hotel. It's perfectly comfortable, but the price is a little high, especially since it does not include breakfast.
Disliked: The last night of my four-night stay I was woken at 3:30a by the hotel's fire alarm; all guests evacuated. This turned out to be a false alarm because (according to the Newark Fire Department Notice posted later that morning) some aspect of the hotel's fire protection system was nonfunctional. For the false alarm, instead of giving a credit for that fourth night, management gave me a mere 30% discount, not enough to make me feel OK about getting only a few hours of sleep before having to drive back home.Also, a $20 charge for a standard buffet breakfast is ridiculous; I didn't buy it.

Disliked: The poor quality of the king mattress. It was much too soft. I felt as if I was being sucked into the innards of the mattress .Also, we were awakened by a mishap in the fire alarm system at around 3:46 AM on Sunday. We waited outside in the frigid weather for 15 minutes before it was resolved.Sadly, upon arrival back to our hotel room, about 10 minutes later, the fire alarm went off again.

Liked: The hotel felt like straight out of a movie. It’s beautiful and the kinds loved it.
Disliked: I would recommend adding microwaves to the rooms.

Liked: Gave us and our doggo a place to sleep for the evening.
Disliked: Room #100: Bathroom tub/shower in direct line of sight from sliding door. Tub was slow to drain. Deadbolt would not engage. Room #120 had leak under sink.
