The Chequers is ideally located for the South of England Showground. However, despite being competitively priced, it needs to up it's game. The rooms are a good size but they were quite dirty. Uncovered quilts were stuffed under beds on an unvacuumed carpet.

Liked: Large clean room, it was basic but had everything we needed and located right in the centre of town
Disliked: The shower was broken and you could hear other guests walking around their rooms

Exceptional

A nice inn within a...

Liked: The inn was ideally placed for my leisure purposes, but the village historic buildings (including the inn) made the trip. the atmosphere at the in with the locals was just wonderful and I became part of the group. Really enjoyed it. The room was as expected with a large and comfortable bed.
Disliked: With the changing of the management, there was no food available, I should have taken the advice of the staff and gone to the local restaurant; but chose the chip shop (warning they can't produce chips like we have in the North). It was a shame there was no food.

Clean but ancient mustard colour...

Liked: There was no breakfast, kitchen closed and no chef!
Disliked: Restaurant should be open, advertised breakfast but haven't done breakfast for 5 years! Kitchen closed bar only open when they felt like it.

Dated property for average cost

Liked: Room had a hair dryer. Rear access to separate the pub.
Disliked: Room wasn’t ready upon arrival at 4:30pm furniture very dated, musty smell, bathroom had original decor from 80’s shower was below head height. Bed sheets were torn in one corner.

Lovely building, but really in...

Liked: Nice pub and Tiffany was absolutely lovely and really helpful.
Disliked: The rooms really need an upgrade. When we arrived, all the furniture was on the bed and there was only one towel per room. We did ask for another towel per room but it never arrived
