The Chequers is ideally located for the South of England Showground. However, despite being competitively priced, it needs to up it's game. The rooms are a good size but they were quite dirty. Uncovered quilts were stuffed under beds on an unvacuumed carpet.

Liked: Tiffany the receptionist was extremely helpful.

Disliked: Place was closed when we went back and we had to go right round other buildings to get to rear door somewhere to get in, and reception not manned in case of emergency. Not up to standard for any hotel with guests regardless of price paid for room. Would not even recommend this for back packers, a hostel would be better. Yo top it all we tried to get into reception in the morning to hand in the key, door to reception locked. We had to leave round the back of the hotel and try to find somewhere to deposit key. Before we headed off. Your write up saying only 6 miles from where we wanted to was way out, edit your write up to 12+ miles.

Liked: when I booked it, it flagged up Horley, which we went ahead and booked drove to..i telephoned after realising it was forest row. I telephoned the hotel to see if I could be refunded to be told there was nothing they could do. It ruined the whole planned evening. I expected as I contacted straight away a refund. The staff was very unhelpful. I booked the chequers through recommendation. .

Disliked: I expect a full refund for this as I it was a complete waste of my money! Considering I couldn’t even get into to the building!

Liked: Amazing old English tavern , any problems were quickly sorted ,and comfy bed ,clean hot shower . This place will become brilliant again and deserves to have some investment in it. Loved it, and great to hear from Claudio that the restaurant will e reopened soon
Disliked: For the price ,it's great , but dated .

Amazing, friendly people and beautiful...

Very unsatisfactory, and unnecessarily so.

Liked: No breakfast. Quiet location more so as it was Sunday.Nice old traditional building.
Disliked: Communication with customers left a lot to be desired. Unable to gain access to room at time required. Only one person on duty, not conactable when needed.
