Delightful short break in quintessential...
Liked: Location could not be bettered - right next door to the Cathedral. Beautiful historic building with roof terrace overlooking the Cathedral. Charmingly eccentric internal layout with, low ceilings, sloping floors and steps and no lift (absolutely fine for the able bodied). Bright airy breakfast room, with bay windows overlooking the picturesque Buttermarket. Outstanding breakfast, served by friendly and attentive staff. On check in we obtained our discounted City parking passes - which work not just in Canterbury, but in nearby Whitstable too.
Disliked: It sounds grudging to say so, but - accepting that it was a 600 year old listed building - there was no aircon. However, each room was equipped with a large portable floor fan which kept the room temperature down during the heat wave we were experiencing. The many, many benefits more than compensated for this minor inconvenience. The price you pay for such a beautiful historic building right in the City Centre.

A Delightful Place to Stay
Liked: The staff was so wonderful, very friendly and alway accommodating. Yes, it is a very old hotel with sloping floors and lots of stairways and wandering halls, but that is the charm of it! I like to imagine the many and varied (and perhaps famous!) guests who have stayed here over the centuries! The bed was very comfortable, the usual amenities, and the view of the Cathedral was wonderful!
