Exceptional

A quaint hotel with a...

Liked: The hotel is stunning inside and out. It is located perfectly in an area that is easy to walk or drive around.
Disliked: The staff did not advise of the $50 a night amenities hold and called my room after 10 pm when I was asleep.The TV reception was not as good.

Liked: The hotel itself is a historic property in the middle of downtown.
Disliked: While it used to be one of the nicest hotels in McAllen, it definitely isn’t now. The interiors have been made generically corporate, unfortunately. Whereas it used to have beautiful interior details, a high quality bar, and wonderful service, it is now badly dated with a staff of people who are barely competent at best, and incredibly rude most of the time. I regret to say that I would never stay here again, which is a shame because when I grew up in McAllen, it was the most elegant place in town. During my 3-night stay, housekeeping didn’t show up once to make the bed or refresh towels. I was told at check-out that I had to request housekeeping and that they surely told me that when I checked in (they did not). I was also given a different, inferior room than I originally booked and was told I could move the next day. When I asked the next day, an incredibly rude young man nearly threw a temper tantrum at the request and turned to his co-worker at the desk and spat, “You deal with this” and stalked off to a back room, leaving both myself and his co-worker somewhat stunned. I told the front desk attendant at that point to forget it, not worth the trouble. Checking out wasn’t much better. The desk attendant seemed utterly bothered that I had interrupted his phone screen time, and was utterly irritated when I questioned why my credit card appeared to have been charged a higher fee ($612 ) for incidentals for 3 nights than the $50 a night they had said it would be charged at check-in. As I said previously, I would never stay here again.
