Liked: Very clean, nice location and great value!

A great location with dated...

Liked: The location was perfect, easy walking to shops and restaurants and ample parking with two lots for the two halves of the hotel. The place was clean, comfortable, and while we didn't use the pool it was the cleanest looking pool I've seen in a hotel. I also appreciated the fireplace and balcony in our room, which was perfect for eating breakfast and looking out at the ocean.
Disliked: The room was quite old, and fairly spartan in facilities. The elevator is certainly old fashioned, small and almost clinical in appearance, and given it is the only thing that seems to connect floors 1 2 and 3 to floors 4 and 5 (we couldn't find stairs between 3 and 4), it was a bottleneck sometimes. I was also disappointed there was no fan or air conditioner as the room got quite hot during the day, so we ended up just leaving when it was hot out. If you really had to stay in during the day, I imagine that could be a bigger issue. During our stay, they also did some roof construction right outside our room that was very loud and a bit annoying. They warned us when we checked in, but at that point we couldn't really adjust or do anything about it.

Liked: Location was excellent. Fireplace.
Disliked: Overpriced. Room had a very musty odor-to the point of feeling it was unhealthy to stay there. Breakfast was on a floor that had to be accessed by elevator-I was told there were no stairs (?!) I don’t use elevator if I can avoid it - Good thing I didn’t. The elevator got stuck one morning stranding people in the breakfast room. My husband found stairs after people were told there weren’tany. They were not safe and he ended up having to walk down a steep hill-ending up behind the business next tot he hotel. There was no way to block light from windows so room was too bright for decent sleep. This was the worst hotel we stayed in on our 16 day trip around Northern California.

Liked: The location was great, front desk were excellent
Disliked: It was cold wile we were in Carmel and the forced air fan unit in the room was extremely noisy.

Disliked: Room has an "old" smell although it looks like rooms have been remodeled. Nothing unbearable.
