Carlton Hotel

Not bad for a cheap...

Liked: Location, friendly staff, the price
Disliked: Very run down, needs a lot of work. I turned up for breakfast at 7.30am and there was a notice saying help yourself. There were no staff around. There cereal boxes but no milk. No bread. Basically no breakfast. I waited 10-15 mins and left to get breakfast elsewhere.

Disliked: Hotel needs upgrading, not a fan of shared toilet

Great for an overnight trip

Liked: Staff were really friendly and went out of their way to give a good service.
Disliked: It's an old property so the windows were possibly the original windows for the building and let in a bit of a draft. That being said I don't mind the fresh air.

Good value for money

Liked: Very friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. The cooked breakfast was really nice and set us up for the next part of our journey. The room was clean and we had a good nights sleep.
Disliked: Didn't like the glass doors on the room which was at right angles to the door on next room. Felt that the net curtain wasn't enough and needed heavier one. It is an old building but the stairs to our room on second floor seemed very steep. Would ask for a room on first floor if staying in the area again.

Needs more attention.

Liked: This was sold as a two bedroom apartment but is in fact one bedroom with a bed in the lounge. There was no bedside lamps and when asked about this the staff did nothing. It was a shame because the place had been done up and just needed someone to give it a bit more attention to detail.
Disliked: See above

Liked: It was a bit dated but staff very helpful and it was spotless clean
Disliked: Mattress was not the best but we were only there for one night and we did sleep

Liked: The barmaid was nice
Disliked: The shower in room had out of order sign so couldn't shower. Curtains didn't cover window. Dead flies and insect behind my head on window ledge . Bed felt like it was stabbing me. Also no lights on stairs to get to 3rd floor room 20. To be honest it was filthy and I want refunded as if u inspect rooms u put people in and u accept their standards that makes u as bad as them. Didn't go down for breakfast either due to the hygiene set in hotel and paid for my own at cafe up the road. Sorry I never complain but I wanted a hotel not a halfway house
