The Spotlight on Capital City Inn Downtown Convention Center

A Cozy Spot in Downtown Sacramento for Concert Nights

Modern comfort meets classic motel charm at Capital City Inn Downtown Convention Center, a freshly renovated, budget-friendly stay in the heart of downtown Sacramento. With only 36 rooms, this small-scale inn offers a more personal, laid-back vibe—perfect if you're in town to catch a show and want a simple, clean, and convenient place to crash.

Just minutes from top Sacramento venues like Memorial Auditorium, the Convention Center Complex, and Old Sacramento, it's a solid home base for music fans looking to stay close to the action without breaking the bank.

Why Concert-goers love it

Staying here means you’re within walking distance or a short ride from many of Sacramento’s major music spots, so you won’t need to stress about late-night rideshare surges. The rooms have newly installed shutters to help block out light and city noise—ideal for sleeping in after a late show. With a 3:00 PM check-in and 11:00 AM check-out, there’s enough flexibility to rest and recharge. Plus, free on-site parking is a huge bonus downtown.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a central location to split costs
  • Solo travelers chasing a dream concert
  • Couples spending the weekend in Sacramento
  • Fans needing a quiet, no-frills spot to unwind post-show
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who want value and convenience

Food and Drink Options

While there’s no full-service restaurant on-site, rooms include a microwave and mini-fridge—great for post-show snacks. You’ll find plenty of walkable late-night eateries and bars nearby in downtown Sacramento. Vending machines are available for quick bites, and the area offers plenty of options for a late breakfast or brunch after a night out.

Nightlife Options

You’re in the right part of town to explore Sacramento’s vibrant nightlife. From small pubs with live music to buzzing cocktail lounges and casual dive bars, there’s something nearby for every vibe. While the motel itself doesn’t host entertainment, its location makes it easy to hop between venues.

What People Say

Guests love the clean, newly updated rooms and the friendly, helpful staff at the front desk. The free parking and walkability to downtown attractions are frequently mentioned as major perks. Many reviews highlight the motel’s surprisingly quiet rooms for being downtown.

Areas for Improvement

This is a no-frills spot—don't expect luxury amenities or a buzzing hotel lounge. Some guests mention that the exterior still looks dated, even though the rooms have been upgraded. Breakfast isn’t offered, so plan ahead if you like to eat on-site.

The Bottom Line

If you’re hitting a concert in downtown Sacramento and want a clean, affordable, and well-located place to stay, Capital City Inn Downtown Convention Center checks all the right boxes.

Awful hotel. I made a reservation and when I got to the hotel, the dude yelled at me saying no vacancy and I kept showing him my reservation. And he just kept yelling at me to leave. Then, the following day, I find out from my credit card company they tried to run my card without me even staying there! Piece of c**p hotel.

Liked: Nothing.

Zachary, Sacramento, visiting Discovery Park Sacramento Tue, 17 September 2013

I would like my money back - I did not even stay there. Room was filthy. I had booked it through Concert Hotels for 2 queen beds for $98. I ended up paying $113 for one bed. My friends and I were told only one person could stay the night in there or the police would be called. A gun was held to my chest and I was threatened by the employee and told "get the hell out".

Liked: Nothing at all.
Disliked: More expensive than booked; only 1 bed instead of 2 like I reserved.

Book this place only if...

Liked: The fact that he was walking distance to a taco truck
Disliked: From the moment we got inside the room it’s stunk like cigarettes. It was bare bones just kind of gross, but I already spent the money so I wasn’t gonna go anywhere else.

Poor

Liked: Not much. Was there for 12 hours and was able to microwave a meal, sleep shower and shave.
Disliked: Facility apparently houses homeless and/or refugees. Not a comforting site. Wasn’t sure my bedding was actually clean. Too close to a busy boulevard.
