Superb

Liked: Comfortable rooms, excellent food and fantastic views from the public rooms and all our bedrooms. Staff kind and helpful.
Disliked: It is an old building, so one day when it was very windy there were some draughts, but still warm in bed. The lift is archaic, but works well enough so long as some careless resident doesn't forget to close the inner gate when they leave. However I could live without the picure of the owners, Mr. and Mrs, Mappin with Donald Trump which hangs in reception, and since Mr. Mappin descends from the Mappin and Web Silversmiths of Sheffield, as a native of that city it seems a shame the cutlery wasn't made there.

Normally I would not recommend...

Liked: Tintagel and dinner in one of the town's pubs. And laughing with increasing incredulity at the paintings in Camelot Castle, and their desperate efforts to sell them for high prices, despite being worthless, according to resale sites and articles on the Internet. Saatchi art site says the biggest collection of Stournton's art is in Camelot Castle Hotel, but fails to point out that he is a part owner.
Disliked: The big, signed photo of Donald Trump in the foyer. The tiny plastic box bathroom that had been inserted into the bedroom. Use the loo, shower and shave - all without moving your feet. The 1950,s furniture in the bedroom. Not "shabby chic" just plain worn out and "shabby".The magazine in the bedroom featuring the three self-publicists that own the place, including articles on Ted Stourton's art that compare him favourably to Monet. Apparently written by Ted Stournton. You can see his art outside where he has attempted to repaint an Aston Martin. Really classy....?? Was Monet a carpainter???The whole place is a crumbling, unloved pile, masquerading as a posh hotel for the rich and famous. I spoke to three other guests who had paid for expensive rooms, and all of whom felt cheated, all of whom said that the bedrooms were extremely poor. I did not eat there but looked at the menu. Pub grub in a 1960 formal dining room is not my idea of fun. Went to a pub instead.I was puzzled because there are many great reviews of this place. However, most favourable reviews of this place are gushing, and have a peculiar similarity to them. A lot like the literature of Scientology and very similar in style to the in-house glossy magazine. I am certainly not accusing the owners and their fellow-travellers of writing them. I am just mentioning the similarities I noted....If you suffer from low blood pressure, then this place could be just what you need.Go on line and check out John Mappin, one of the 3 owners. Very interesting. ....Scientology meets Fawlty Towers!*

Very enjoyable stay in the...

Liked: Great location. Staff were friendly and helpful. Some of the decor was a bit tired / quirky, but in keeping with the image. Evening meal was as good as we?ve had in a while. Room had 4 poster and spectacular views.
Disliked: Nothing major springs to mind. Coffee at breakfast wasn?t very strong, but I am searching f9r things if this is the worst I can come up with.
