Calgary Marriott Downtown Hotel

Was staying at hotel and was informed about the fact that the hotel is no smoking, but there were no signs posted anywhere. I was threatened with police action against me if I did not pay a $250.00 fine that I was also unaware of.

Liked: Great location, very close to a lot of restaurants, shops and other conveniences. Great room with a lovely view. Great coat closet, cabinets to put your things in. A lounge area to relax in and a desk with chair, comfortable bed and I got extra blankets that made my sleep very nice and warm. Free bottle of water and watering stations on certain floors and at the lobby. I got extra toilet paper that made it convenient.
Disliked: It was a full house the time that I stayed. I don't think the hotel had enough room attendant staff that was able to refresh the rooms because I came back to my hotel room after the day and it was still not refreshed the whole weekend. They did refresh them close to past the end of the day but they were in such a rush that they forgot to refill the toiletries that was already close to empty when I checked in. They were in such a rush that they left the dirty glasses and forgot to replace them for new ones. Had to request for a kettle for hot water but there was none available. Had to go to the restaurant to get hot water which was horrible because of course the servers were very busy. Had to request for mugs because it's not already provided. Didn't have other toiletries like mouth wash and things in case you forget some things at the little convenient market at the hotel.

Lesson Learned. I usually stay...

Liked: The room and beds were fine. Bathroom had large vanity so plenty of room to get ready.
Disliked: When I booked I paid for an included breakfast. This was the first Marriott or any other hotel that the included breakfast that was not a buffet. and didn't even include coffee. I had requested the breakfast option to be removed but as it was through booking.com, Marriott was unable to comply with request. I asked that monies paid for breakfast the last day (which we couldn't use as we had an early flight) be credited to outstanding breakfast charges. I was told no as $20 credit per person was per day not a sum total. We exceeded the charges on day 1 and day 2 and would need to pay the balance.

Disliked: The concierge staff were great and the check-in staff were also good but the bar staff were quite snobbish. We had one drink and left as we did not feel like the bar had a nice atmosphere at all.
