Buchholz Downtown Hotel

Okay hotel, good location, friendly...

Liked: Good location, clean, large room, comfortable bed, plenty of lighting in the rooms, staff were friendly.
Disliked: Ground floor room and a smoking area on the street just outside the window, so there was a smell of cigarette smoke every morning. Shower was the strangest configuration with a folding door that made it difficult to get in and out. No secure baggage storage area.

A good base for a...

Liked: The Buchholz is a clean and comfortable base for a short stay in Cologne.
Disliked: The lift is tricky to operate, particularly with a suitcase or two.

Liked: exceptional breakfast of cold cuts, yoghurts, breads and other items
Disliked: I'm older I have trouble walking - no one came to the front to help me carry my suitcase up the stairs from the street to the front entrance. The rooms we requested were not together but rather separated by floors. A stained sheet was not replaced. The "bar" was seldom open and not after 8pm

Liked: Convenient location near Hauptbahnhof and Dom and Rhine, beautifully quiet, looking out on a leafy green courtyard at the back with a view of St Kunibert's church. Great room. We had asked for two separate beds for two of us (sisters) and were given a lovely suite/family room with a double bed and sofa bed. Good breakfast. Helpful staff.
Disliked: The only thing missing was tea/coffee in the room.
