lovely hotel and setting, pool...

Liked: room and beds were comfortable. staff friendly and helpfulbreakfast was great and lots of choicehad chicken burger for dinner and friend had fish and chips - would say that the food was average, had expected something a bit more exciting and tastier
Disliked: the pool area and gym were appalling. They were dirty - clumps of hair stuck around the poolside. changing rooms dirty and grim. Pool water itself clean. But overall experience for a top end hotel was really disappointing. Thought id use the pool more but it was just too depressing. They really need to update this area - and soon.

Superb

Liked: Lovely place in nice grounds.
Disliked: £30 fee for the dog is steep. They kindly waived the fee for me but Booking. Com should have a clearer policy on fees for bringing dogs upfront at the time of booking.

A wonderful stay in a...

Liked: A magnificent Elizabethan mansion, set in beautiful gardens and huge parklands with a wonderfully laid out golf course sweeping around the undulating grounds. Wooden panelling, paintings, comfortable sofas, a pretty restaurant with a huge chandelier give it a great atmosphere. It is the staff that make this a gem of a find. The warmest of welcomes from the staff who know a thing or two about outstanding customer service. A can do attitude with a smile from everyone where nothing is too much trouble from the restaurant and bar to the reception team to the golf team. Callum at reception looked after us superbly, a big thank you to him.
Disliked: Nothing

Beautiful Building

Liked: Beautiful building, nice staff, very good lunch.
Disliked: Spacious room but it was a little soulless. It felt as though it could be very good but lacked finishing touches.

Ok

Liked: Impressive building and grounds
Disliked: Latest refurbishment (seems it's been recently bought by a Hong Kong investor group) doesn't match the splendour and history of the place. Decoration looks gaudy and furniture is noticeably cheap. Pool was ok, but did notice dirt in the corners. Breakfast was subpar - mushy and watery eggs etc.
