Wacky and weird.
Liked: Rooms were small but comfortable. The majority of the staff were pleasant and helpful. The bar was good in the evening. The restaurant was good, breakfast was fine. The lounge area is lovely and furnishings are pleasing. Positioning of the hotel was a short walk to the funicular and pier. Parking on the road outside the hotel. There is not a lot to do in Saltburn, a very small centre and a few restaurants, but check opening times. Short drive to Staithes (recommend a trip there), or Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay.
Disliked: Front of house lady was cold, lacked interpersonal skills, and bordered on rude. Totally unwelcoming as a first impression compared to the other staff. Check-out was the same rude delivery, guests appeared to be a nuisance. That is how we felt. The breakfast was fine, but small cafetieres of coffee are too small and if avocados are black or brown inside then don't mash them in the hope people won't notice, it looks awful. Food needs more attention to detail to lift it. The decor lacks any coherent thought throughout, and what may once have been regarded as quirky is now obsolete and over-the-top. The pink Feathered flamingos and animals hanging on the walls and dotted about the hotel are full of dust and have seen better days, as have the plastic plants. Chandeliers dusty and look unkempt. Declutter because the hotel has Gothic-style windows and is elegant without the tat. The large bear in the entrance is a little worrying. Boxes stored at the unused conservatory entrance make the place look untidy. Make it a proper boutique hotel. Rooms need a soft-furnishings upgrade. Apparently, not using booking.com reduces the cost of the stay, and better rooms are offered.

A most enjoyable stay, thank...
Liked: The service was First Class and the staff friendly and courteous. The hotel has a unique vibe and decor.
Disliked: This is subjective but our preference would have been to have more vegetables (ie. carrots, broccoli, etc.) on the evening Brasserie Menu - and the option of potatoes that were not fried (i.e. boiled new potatoes which were in season at the time of our stay). That said, the quality of the food and service was excellent.

Passable
Liked: Easy access to Town and beach.Quirky decor.
Disliked: Paying £200 a night you expect service. My wife was told they were too busy at breakfast to get her a late. There were 2 staff and only one other couple in the breakfast room.
