Cramped, stinking, and overheated. Room...
Liked: Breakfast was good but the staff bailed out leaving the bar and a couple of tables piles with used crockery.
Disliked: When we arrived none of the staff seemed to know what to with us. There's a really scabby door on the street which says 'Reception' on the door but after ringing many times nobody came. Went into the pub to ask for help and apparently check-in was down to someone in the cafe...but the person we spoke to told us that dealing with such 'stuff' was not her forte. Anyway, checked in much later and taken up a flight of wooden stairs to Room 3....if you get offered room 3 don't go there. The 'room details' told us it is a standard double room but we seemed to end up in what is euphemistically called the Snug: admittedly the room size was there as 64 sq ft but that seemed improbably small. It was 64 sq ft, mostly taken up by a bed and a noisy fridge. The place absolutely stank of hot cooking fat and was ridiculously warm even on a cool day. The huge vent from the kitchen came across a disgusting courtyard (city view NOT) and blasted hot greasy fumes into the window, making everything stink of steak grease. Absolutely vile. After out experience with the check-in earlier and from what we could gather about the bookings there were no other rooms available. But as per so many places nowadays, once you're checked in that's it. You can't go elsewhere because they take your money and once paid you'll never get it back!! So, hot greasy stinking room without a city view - two drinks allowed from the fridge: a mini prosecco and a beer.....not two proseccos or you'll be charged!! And over £200 fro the privilege. Rubbish!
