The Spotlight on Britannia Manchester Hotel

Classic Victorian Charm in the Heart of Manchester

Set in a stunning Victorian building, the Britannia Manchester Hotel offers a budget-friendly and atmospheric stay just a short walk from Manchester’s top concert venues. With its grand staircases, original chandeliers, and relaxed vibe, it’s perfect for music fans looking to soak up some history while staying close to the action.
You're only 10 minutes' walk from Manchester Piccadilly Railway Station, and just steps from lively Chinatown and Metrolink tram stops — making it easy to explore the city day or night.

Why Concert-goers love it

Concert-goers appreciate the fantastic location — you can easily walk to Manchester Arena, Manchester Academy, or Albert Hall. The hotel’s late-night Wave Bar with live DJs keeps the party going after the show, and with the tram stop right outside, getting back even after a late gig is a breeze. While the hotel is in a lively area, many rooms offer a quieter retreat for those needing a post-concert wind-down. Plus, the 14:00 check-in time means you have plenty of time to settle in before the night's festivities.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for an affordable, central base
  • Solo travelers seeing a bucket-list artist
  • Couples making a weekend of it
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space
  • Budget-conscious music fans who want to save their money for merch and tickets

Food and Drink Options

The hotel features two on-site bars: The Wave Bar (open late with a dancefloor) and Cromptons Bar (a relaxed lounge for casual drinks). While there’s no 24/7 room service, you'll find plenty of walkable late-night eateries nearby in Chinatown and along Portland Street. Breakfast is available on-site — perfect for a slow start after a late night.

Nightlife Options

For those who want to keep the party going, The Wave Bar features live DJs and a dance floor right inside the hotel. You're also steps from Manchester’s vibrant nightlife, with bars, lounges, and clubs all within easy walking distance.

What People Say

Guests love the central location, the affordable rates, and the historic building's character. Many mention that it’s a perfect base for gigs and events, and that the hotel’s bars are a fun bonus if you're not ready for the night to end.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests have noted that the rooms could use a little updating, and that noise can be an issue in rooms facing the street — so light sleepers might want to request a quieter room. WiFi is available but can be patchy in some areas.

The Bottom Line

If you’re after a budget-friendly, centrally located hotel packed with historic charm and easy access to Manchester’s music scene, Britannia Manchester Hotel hits the right note.

Paid £35 online for a Sunday night. The reviews for this hotel were terrible but we seem to have gotten lucky. The fact it was a Sunday meant it was way cheaper and pretty empty. The rooms are shabby but I paid £35. I wasn't expecting much. I'd stay again for a cheap night when you're not going to be spending too much time in the hotel. 9 minutes from the Ritz and 10 minutes from city park, which you get discounted parking through the hotel reception. You get what you pay for.

Liked: Friendly staff. Cheap. Great location.
Disliked: Tropical heat in the bedroom and the phone going off all night.

Friendly staff and great location but I think perhaps we got what we paid for. Keeping in mind I have an 8 month old child at home, this was by far the worst night's sleep I have experienced in over a year! Not quite the comfortable, peaceful night I was hoping for! As long as you don't want to sleep, the hotel is great as a base, but avoid breakfast at all costs!

Liked: Good location.
Disliked: Bed was rock hard; breakfast was very unpleasant.

Gave our 2 bedroom room...

Disliked: Booked in advance a 2 bedroom room, contacted them asking if any issues regarding our arrival as me and my daughter would be arriving from a late night flight back from Tenerife, was told all be fineWhen we arrived there was dangerous people outside the hotel, a gentlemen had informed us they was prioritising other races at this hotel and Brits was being turned awayBy the way Im quite street wise and have lived on council estates in the past so if you think I'm being dramatic I'm notWhen we approached the reception we was informed " our rooms had been given away"My daughter already upset after an incident outside and after traveling thousands of miles burst into tears Being exhausted and didn't fancy putting ourselves at risk again outside we had to degrade our selves to begging for a room , they man on reception had zero compassion or understanding quite frankly he appeared to enjoy this, any effort to help in any way? Non at allWe was eventually told we could stay in a one bedroom room so I had to sleep on the floor after several thousand miles of travelling Being treat like dirt was an understatement Do I feel a victim of racism for being white I do

Only few sockets on one wall, shower head is not removable, no toilet brush, no air conditioning just some old fan, dirty windows-I mean really dirty, no safe in the room. Breakfast always the same-english breakfast. No room cleaning during the stay!
