The Spotlight on Britannia Edinburgh Hotel

Peaceful Riverside Stay Just Minutes from the Action

Modern comforts meet historic charm at the Britannia Edinburgh Hotel, located beside the tranquil Water of Leith. Tucked away in a quiet part of the city, yet only a 15-minute stroll to the bustling Princes Street, this hotel offers a relaxed retreat within easy reach of Edinburgh's major music venues and nightlife. Its classic interior and calm atmosphere make it a solid choice for concert-goers who want to balance high-energy shows with restful downtime.

Why Concert-goers love it

Concert fans appreciate the hotel’s peaceful setting after a loud night out, with no street noise to interrupt your post-show wind-down. Being just a short walk or ride from the city’s best venues, including those near Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle, it’s easy to get to and from gigs. The 15:00 check-in and 11:00 check-out times give you a bit of flexibility for pre-show naps or a lazy morning recovery.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for an affordable base near the city’s music hotspots
  • Solo travelers chasing that must-see artist
  • Couples planning a concert weekend getaway
  • Fans who want a quiet place to recharge after a gig
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who’d rather spend on tickets than rooms

Food and Drink Options

The hotel offers an on-site restaurant and bar serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner—ideal for grabbing a bite before or after your event. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the dining options are convenient, and nearby eateries on Princes Street are just a short walk away. Late-night dining may require a quick trip out, but you won’t go hungry.

Nightlife Options

While the Britannia doesn’t host live music itself, you’re within easy reach of Edinburgh’s buzzing nightlife. Bars and lounges near the city centre offer everything from traditional pubs to stylish cocktail spots. The hotel bar is a relaxed place to enjoy a nightcap with fellow fans.

What People Say

Guests love the quiet riverside location, especially after a long night out. Many mention the hotel’s value for money and walkable distance to the city centre. The staff gets good marks for friendliness, and travelers say it’s a great base for exploring both music venues and Edinburgh’s tourist sights.

Areas for Improvement

This isn’t a luxury property, so some rooms may feel a bit dated. If you're expecting ultra-modern decor or high-end amenities, you might be a little underwhelmed—but for the price, most guests find it more than fair.

The Bottom Line

If you're after a quiet, budget-friendly stay close to Edinburgh's concert scene, the Britannia Edinburgh Hotel is a reliable pick.

Good

Liked: Big room. Clean & tidy. Good location not far from Haymarket train station.
Disliked: The shower nozzle was faulty so i had trouble getting the shower to work. I asked for a double bed but got two single beds pushed together so I could feel the dip in the middle when I got into bed. No aircon in the room so it felt very stuffy. I had 10 or so emails asking me to check in & pay online before my visit which was frustrating as my original email said I could pay when I checked in.

Poor value for money

Liked: The location was quite handy, a 15 minute walk away from Haymarket tram stop
Disliked: Our room was unclean, housekeeping tried to chase us out of our room before the stated checkout time, only one member of staff between the bar and reception meant there was a long delay if you needed something.

Liked: Location was great and central. Very basic facility with bar onsite and restaurant.
Disliked: Extortionate rates for AC/DC and expensive for fringe. Going rate I guess. Main problem was they wouldn’t give us an extra pillow so only 1 per bed. Pretty stingy after asking several times.

Great location for a short...

Liked: Well located in Edinburgh. Room & Bathroom were well equipped, but showing signs of wear & tear. Our room had a good view and was airy. Great to have car parking in the city, next to the hotel. We didn't eat at the hotel - so no comment on the food.
Disliked: Hotel was a bit dated and showing signs of wear and tear.

Not great

Liked: Didn't eat
Disliked: Overall maintenance of the building, layout of room was terrible. We had to boil kettle on the floor as no sockets available. Lights out in bathroom and the staff when checking in came across very rude. Almost like I was an inconvenience. Staff member on desk lacked knowledge of area. Car park was horrifically tight. Couldn't open my boot.

Liked: Great location, within walking distance to town centre. With the hot weather, it was nice to find a fridge in the room to keep our drinks cold.
Disliked: The pillows, they were far too hard, which made for an uncomfortable sleep. The shower was a bit pitiful, but done the job.

Liked: The staff were lovely. The room was clean and had good facilities.
Disliked: However, it was a very expensive stay, perhaps due to Edinburgh being busy with events at that time.
