The Spotlight on Britannia Edinburgh Hotel

Peaceful Riverside Stay Just Minutes from the Action

Modern comforts meet historic charm at the Britannia Edinburgh Hotel, located beside the tranquil Water of Leith. Tucked away in a quiet part of the city, yet only a 15-minute stroll to the bustling Princes Street, this hotel offers a relaxed retreat within easy reach of Edinburgh's major music venues and nightlife. Its classic interior and calm atmosphere make it a solid choice for concert-goers who want to balance high-energy shows with restful downtime.

Why Concert-goers love it

Concert fans appreciate the hotel’s peaceful setting after a loud night out, with no street noise to interrupt your post-show wind-down. Being just a short walk or ride from the city’s best venues, including those near Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle, it’s easy to get to and from gigs. The 15:00 check-in and 11:00 check-out times give you a bit of flexibility for pre-show naps or a lazy morning recovery.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for an affordable base near the city’s music hotspots
  • Solo travelers chasing that must-see artist
  • Couples planning a concert weekend getaway
  • Fans who want a quiet place to recharge after a gig
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who’d rather spend on tickets than rooms

Food and Drink Options

The hotel offers an on-site restaurant and bar serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner—ideal for grabbing a bite before or after your event. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the dining options are convenient, and nearby eateries on Princes Street are just a short walk away. Late-night dining may require a quick trip out, but you won’t go hungry.

Nightlife Options

While the Britannia doesn’t host live music itself, you’re within easy reach of Edinburgh’s buzzing nightlife. Bars and lounges near the city centre offer everything from traditional pubs to stylish cocktail spots. The hotel bar is a relaxed place to enjoy a nightcap with fellow fans.

What People Say

Guests love the quiet riverside location, especially after a long night out. Many mention the hotel’s value for money and walkable distance to the city centre. The staff gets good marks for friendliness, and travelers say it’s a great base for exploring both music venues and Edinburgh’s tourist sights.

Areas for Improvement

This isn’t a luxury property, so some rooms may feel a bit dated. If you're expecting ultra-modern decor or high-end amenities, you might be a little underwhelmed—but for the price, most guests find it more than fair.

The Bottom Line

If you're after a quiet, budget-friendly stay close to Edinburgh's concert scene, the Britannia Edinburgh Hotel is a reliable pick.

Pleasant

Liked: The staff were humble, helpful and honest.
Disliked: The cleanliness of my bed sheets had been contaminated with someone else's blood. By the looks of it - the blood was recent - which i had no open wounds for the stains to be mine. I complained via email and heard nothing back.

Very poor

Liked: The breakfast was great and the staff were wonderful.
Disliked: The bed was uncomfortable and was riddled with bed fleas. The wash basin was not deep enough to fill the kettle. The bathroom was tiny.

Fair hotel for a good...

Liked: Was my 3rd visit to britannia. It is decent accomodation for a fair price in an otherwise expensive city to stay at accomodation wise. . Staff are always friendly and beds always comfy and clean. We stayed in windowless room due to budget but this didn't bother us at all....was perfectly suitable for one night. Breakfast was nice as it always is with a good selection of both cooked and cold choices . Checkout was 11am ....that extra hour compared to other hotels meant an extra hour which is amazing in a morning. I hate being rushed on mornings. Location is good, about a 15 min walk from the end of princess St but down a steep hill so people with mobility issues or struggle walking distance may struggle with it . The tram is available from the top of the hill , about a 10 min walk and castle is around 20/30 mins walk . As I say it's my 3rd stay and although there's often bad reviews it's good , fair accommodation on a budget. If you're wanting 5* then pay 5* prices
Disliked: Breakfast would be nice to be run a little later maybe as we found rushing down at 9am after a late night at a concert a but stressful but not a huge negative. Although beds were lovely and clean, very comfy, the room itself could have been cleaner (dust and flower petals in corners etc) ....again just minor things. Out toilet seat would t stay up and kept hitting our back when on toilet and no coat hangers in wardrobes. Menial things that could easily be fixed. May I also suggest an exit from the back of the hotel up to the road as I found the hill a struggle...again just a personal thing really but feel would be beneficial to many other too
