The Spotlight on Brewers Lodge

Historic Charm Meets Concert Convenience Near Newport

Originally a 16th-century farmhouse, Brewers Lodge is a cozy country inn overlooking the town of Blackwood, just outside Newport. With scenic surroundings and a rich backstory (once owned by the family of legendary Captain Henry Morgan), the inn blends rustic charm with modern comforts. Set in its own peaceful grounds, it offers a relaxed base within striking distance of city venues in Newport, Cardiff, and even Bristol.
The 15 en-suite rooms sit above a traditional pub and event suite, giving you a proper local experience with a warm, welcoming vibe.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location-wise, you're well-placed — just 2.7 miles from the nearest train station and a mere 0.5 miles to a major bus interchange, making post-show travel surprisingly simple. While the pub downstairs can bring some noise, the lively atmosphere is perfect if you're looking to keep the energy going after a gig. Rooms are modern and comfortable, and while check-out is at 10:00, the central location means cafes and transport options are close by for a smooth departure.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends who want to stay together above a pub with a pint never far away
  • Solo travelers tracking down their favorite band with a scenic stay to match
  • Couples making a romantic weekend out of a concert night
  • Fans needing a quiet recovery — the countryside setting helps with that (just pack earplugs for pub nights)
  • Budget-conscious music fans looking for value and character

Food and Drink Options

The on-site pub and restaurant are a definite plus, serving hearty meals before or after your event. While breakfast isn’t served, several local cafes nearby make for a great morning-after outing. Late-night cravings? You might not get 24/7 room service, but the bar and restaurant are a great shout for evening bites.

Nightlife Options

While there’s no on-site clubbing scene, the pub downstairs often hosts events and offers plenty of atmosphere. Plus, you’re not far from the livelier night scenes of Newport and Cardiff, which are easily reachable by train or car. Prefer something low-key? Settle into the pub with a local ale and good company.

What People Say

Guests love the unique character of the place, calling out the friendly staff, scenic views, and the blend of old-world charm with modern amenities. The pub’s food gets good marks, and the rooms are praised for being clean and functional. Many mention the convenience to cities and the value for money as top reasons to stay.

Areas for Improvement

Being above a pub and event space means some noise is to be expected, especially on weekends. Breakfast isn’t served on-site, but nearby options help fill the gap. Keep in mind that all rooms are on the first floor with stairs only — something to note if accessibility is a concern.

The Bottom Line

If you're after a character-packed stay near Newport with easy access to concerts and countryside charm, Brewers Lodge hits the right note.

Liked: Staff were friendly and helpful. The room and beds were comfortable - bedding and bedclothes very clean, towels etc also.
Disliked: It was only an overnight stay, but the bedroom we had at the back was noisy from central heating or something and was going on and off during the night. Also the bathroom floor was extremely noisy when walking around in it - especially if you had to use it during the night.
