The Spotlight on Birmingham Central Backpackers

Affordable, Artsy Vibes in the Heart of Birmingham

Birmingham Central Backpackers is a colorful, laid-back hostel right in the city center. Just a short walk from Birmingham New Street Station and mere minutes from the National Express Coach Station, this hostel is ideal for travelers looking to stay close to the city's bustling music and arts scene without breaking the budget. Its quirky decor and social atmosphere make it a favorite among backpackers and music lovers alike.

Why Concert-goers love it

This hostel is a 3-minute stroll from the Custard Factory—one of Birmingham’s most iconic creative hubs and home to galleries, shops, restaurants, and a nightclub. With New Street Station less than 10 minutes away, getting to any major venue in Birmingham is a breeze. Plus, with the National Express Coach Station just a minute away, late-night arrivals or departures are easy to manage. While it's a lively space, many guests report a surprisingly quiet night’s sleep—especially in the private rooms.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends hitting multiple shows
- Solo travelers chasing their favorite bands
- Couples on a fun, affordable weekend
- Fans looking for a relaxed recovery spot after the encore
- Budget-conscious music fans who want to be central without splurging

Food and Drink Options

While the hostel doesn’t have an on-site restaurant, it’s just a short walk to tons of local eateries—from late-night kebabs to trendy cafés. A communal kitchen is available for guests who prefer to cook. You'll also find plenty of breakfast options nearby to help you recover after a late night.

Nightlife Options

The Custard Factory’s bars and club are right around the corner, making it easy to keep the night going after the gig. For those seeking something more chill, the hostel’s common room and outdoor courtyard are great places to meet fellow travelers and swap setlists over a drink.

What People Say

Guests love the hostel's friendly, welcoming staff and its fun, social vibe. Many reviewers highlight the excellent location as a huge plus, especially for those attending events or shows. The free Wi-Fi and quirky decor also get frequent shoutouts.

Areas for Improvement

The hostel's shared bathrooms and dorm-style accommodations may not suit everyone, and the building is a bit older—so don’t expect luxury touches. Still, most guests agree it’s a solid value for the price.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a fun, affordable, and ultra-central base for your Birmingham concert adventure, Birmingham Central Backpackers hits the right note.

No issues.

Liked: It's very close to the National Express bus station. The kitchen is well-stocked with the essentials for cooking. Lots of showers.
Disliked: Heard one guy say there was no hot water when he tried to take a shower. The common area is a bit too common.
