Hotel Description
One of Devon's most beautiful wedding venues and bed and breakfast breaks this 14th century castle nestles in a valley surrounded by 30 acres of lush green land. The Exe River runs through the estate offering you the chance to fish or just sit and listen as the river makes its way back to the sea. This is an opportunity not only to be close to nature but to almost touch history: the chapel was built only 30 years after the Normans landed in Britain in the 11th century and stands intact today as probably the oldest 'living' building in Devon. Bickleigh Castle offers bed and breakfast and wedding accommodations with 15 bedrooms including twin double and family rooms available in the newly renovated thatched cottages situated around the castle courtyard. All of the bedrooms are tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard.

Quiet location with a castle!

A unique and quirky place,...

Liked: A unique private hotel with the very friendly owner running things. Nice to stay somewhere that wasn't a chain, rare to see these days. Continental breakfast provided with plenty of choices and warm croissants given.

Quaint rustic property.

Liked: Very rustic property, listed. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom was fine. Amenities in room ok. Breakfast was fine.
Disliked: A bit rundown all round. Wifi was terrible. The owner said it was fine last week and that she would get a technician in. If WiFi is very important to you, then check with the owner before booking.

Unique, special and superb customer...

Liked: The staff were superb. Relaxed, welcoming and made you feel like family. The owner, Sarah, especially. If you’re wanting a shiny, modern, high tech hotel don’t come here. However if you want a unique old castle, exceptional customer service and beautiful surroundings you will be hard pushed to find better than this lovely place.
Disliked: I didn’t like the fact that I could only stay for 1 night, not their fault, mine.

Avoid if you are after...

Liked: Nice quiet location.
Disliked: They are very short staffed which makes it tricky when fully booked. The host seemed frustrated that a large number of guests came down for breakfast at the same time. We did not get our drinks order taken and had to chase it up. There is also a 1 hour window to have breakfast which is not ideal as many people travel for leisure and would appreciate not feeling rushed. The rooms could have been cleaner, there were stains on the bathroom floor and the bath very old and slippery (an accident waiting to happen).Did not feel welcome in this place, felt like i was actively ignored by the older lady host and would stay somewhere else if ever in Tiverton again.
