Located within a 14th-century coaching inn the award-winning Best Western Rose and Crown Hotel is located just a 15 minutes' walk from the center of historic Colchester. The Rose and Crown offers guests both modern and oak-beamed rooms which all include free Wi-Fi flat-screen TVs with Freeview channels tea and coffee-making facilities and private bathrooms. Food and drink at the Rose and Crown is provided at both the formal hotel restaurant and the Tudor Bar and Brasserie with its real log fires. All food is home-produced and made using seasonal ingredients. Kitchen is closed for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is unaffected and is served daily: Mon - Fri 6.30-9.30 / Sat - Sun and Bank Holidays 7.30 -10.30 Bar is open daily from 5.30PM - 10.30PM

Very poor

Disliked: Fire alarm went off in the middle of the night. Staff didn't advise why left everyone pensive at gone 11pm at night, no courtesy walk around to advise it was all ok. Unsettled night waiting for fire alarm to go off again.... As a result late to breakfast, continental still out but staff wouldn't let me take some back to my room despite being prepaid. Utterly appalling stay. Won't be staying here again.

Really enjoyed staying at the...

Liked: Lovely, characterful hotel. Clean room and bathroom with plenty of tea, coffee and bathroom items (soap, shampoo, body wash). Very helpful and polite staff.
Disliked: Nothing not to like.
