Located within a 14th-century coaching inn the award-winning Best Western Rose and Crown Hotel is located just a 15 minutes' walk from the center of historic Colchester. The Rose and Crown offers guests both modern and oak-beamed rooms which all include free Wi-Fi flat-screen TVs with Freeview channels tea and coffee-making facilities and private bathrooms. Food and drink at the Rose and Crown is provided at both the formal hotel restaurant and the Tudor Bar and Brasserie with its real log fires. Disappointing, I would think twice...

Liked: I was allowed to check in early. Front desk pretty efficient.
Disliked: The breakfast on the second day of my stay was a bit of a disaster. The operation was disorganised, eg no glasses for the orange juice, no small plates for the toast. To get things like orange juice topped up I had to ask staff. My breakfast order was lost - as was other tables - so in the end I had had to wait so long that I did not have the time for the breakfast to be cooked. So I asked for a refund - which I promptly got. I'm not used to these poor levels of service.
