With stylish, well-appointed rooms and easy highway access, this hotel is a solid pick for concert-goers looking to recharge before and after the show. A seasonal outdoor pool, free parking, and on-site dining round out a stay that’s both practical and relaxing.

Why Concert-goers love it

Located just minutes from downtown concert venues and the Greater Richmond Convention Center, you’re never far from the action. Despite the easy access to music hotspots, the hotel sits in a quieter area—ideal for decompressing post-show. 24-hour front desk service makes late-night check-ins seamless, and free parking is a major perk for those driving in for a gig.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Couples planning a weekend getaway with a concert highlight
  • Fans needing quiet after a night of loud music
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who still want comfort and style

Food and Drink Options

The on-site restaurant serves up American-style meals, with à la carte breakfast available—perfect after a long night. While there’s no 24/7 room service, convenient vending machines offer late-night snacks. Plus, downtown Richmond’s food scene is just a short drive away for pre- or post-show bites.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself doesn’t host live music, you’re a quick Uber or drive away from Richmond’s buzzing nightlife—bars, lounges, and clubs are all within easy reach. For a low-key night, the hotel bar pours drinks in a relaxed setting.

What People Say

Guests love the clean, spacious rooms and the friendliness of the staff. Many highlight the hotel’s easy access to downtown, the ample free parking, and the comfort of the beds after a night out. Travelers also note the quiet atmosphere as a big plus when returning from a high-energy show.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the location feels slightly remote if you’re relying on public transportation or want to bar-hop on foot. Also, the seasonal pool means it’s not always available, so double-check if you’re hoping for a swim.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a clean, quiet, and convenient base near Richmond’s music scene, the Best Western Premier Richmond City Gateway hits all the right notes.

Morgan, Berlin , visiting The National Richmond

All in all we were very pleased. Considering how inexpensive the rate was, we were a bit nervous about the quality of the hotel, but we were both very impressed upon arrival. I would definitely return.

Liked: Very nice staff; the room was very nice; very cheap rate and they included a $20 voucher for breakfast in the morning which was a very great deal and the breakfast was outstanding.
Disliked: It was a little further from the venue then we thought and therefore a more expensive cab ride, but considering it was still only $25 each way which isn't terribly expensive.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Ashley, Virginia Beach, visiting The National Richmond

The TV in the room didn't work along with a lamp in the room; there were problems in the business room therefore I missed the event I was traveling for and to top it off the $20 breakfast voucher we received at check in we could not use due to the restaurant closing at 10:30, when the voucher was vaild until 11am and the hostess was rude when informing us. Overall my stay at this Holiday Inn was horrible.

Place was hard to find...

Liked: Breakfast was good, but when you have two bus loads of young people (teens?) It can be a bit crowded ?!
Disliked: Room in the first floor was quiet and convenient.

Almost lost my room and...

Liked: The bed was comfortable. I love that I had a first floor room. It was peaceful. You had easy access to the main highway. Morning staff was very pleasant.
Disliked: So hopefully everyone reads this when you are booking through this app. Don't ever pay through the app an expect it to show up at the property you are staying at. I had the worst, probably traumatic time trying to prove I already paid. I would have been able to handle the situation better if staff wasn't so cold towards me. A "Miss Mason let me try to help you figure it out dont worry" would have been comforting as I was freaking out and really losing it because I felt helpless I thought I was going to lose my money and not get my room. I was so frantic that I couldn't find the number to get help. Finally the clerk managed to find it but it took Booking.com forever to answer their line. Mind you, I got the room because I wanted to get away from all the stress and strain I been going through and going through this situation with the hotel stressed me out more I wanted to cancel and get another hotel next door but this hotel will charge you for canceling so I had no choice. I don't blame the hotel for booking.com error, but I do fault them for the cold shoulder clerk's that could have made the situation move quicker, easily and nicer. If I was a hotel clerk and seen my guest freaking out and crying after they proved that they actually paid, I would have went above and beyond to make sure she gets into her room even if it meant I called booking.com myself. Anything yo reassure that I care. My room was not as clean as a 161.00 dollar room should be. Crumbs in the chair, floor dusty, a stain on the sheet lucky for me it was at the foot of the bed. Bathroom was not good but I seen worse. The tub floor was oddly uneven. Like a dip or something in the tub. So when you take shower, water builds up in that dip, gross. But other than that like I said I seen worse and in the end I got my rest, I was at peace and don't wish what happened to me happen to anyone else. So glad I wasn't from out of town I would have really been panicking.
