Areas for Improvement

Some reviews mention that parts of the property could benefit from a refresh, especially in the common areas. Others noted that while Wi-Fi is free in public areas, it can be less reliable in some rooms. That said, these are minor points and don’t take away from the overall experience.

Hated nearly everything about this...

Liked: The room is a nice size and the balcony is nice to have. The bed is large and comfortable.
Disliked: When we checked in we were told there was no bar or evening meal as the restaurant is under going renovations, in August! I looked and found I had received an email on Monday (we checked in on Thursday) with no option to cancel. Very disappointed as we had organised for people to join us for dinner and our plan was to enjoy the hotel facilities. When we did our research to book the onsite bar and restaurant was why we booked. When we got to our room we found a bottle of beer and a bag of rubbish still in our room. Also only 1/2 a toilet roll! We were offered a new room (not an upgrade) but as I’d already unpacked, we declined. We were then given 2 cans of coke with our toilet rolls! The hallway smells disgusting, a combination of damp and mould and we think it originates from outside one of the bedrooms. We did tell reception who stated they didn’t have maintenance department so goodness knows what they will do. We paid for a view but the view are a dozen canal boats being used as homes. Not very interesting at all. The TV only worked in certain channels. The AC works well but is a unit on the floor in the corner directed straight at the bed. I had to sit in bed with a cardigan on as it was blowing directly at me. Breakfast was awful as the hot food was lukewarm. The meats and cheeses were 1 cheese and ham. The pastries were dry and not fresh.

Liked: We've stayed here before and things were generally fine. It's a basic hotel but it has a nice pool and sauna. Staff were friendly. There were renovations going on but they were managed well and didn't take away from the hotel much.
Disliked: I imagine this is going to be a problem as we have hotter weather but without air conditioning, the room was beyond acceptable levels of heat. A fan, unfortunately, didn't cut it. It was stifling. Also, I was a little bit peeved that given half the hotel facilities were under renovation, the price of the hotel still very high and there was no notice on the site to say renovations were taking place.

Michael Mason at the Quayside

Liked: Gym, swimming pool
Disliked: No resturant or bar.Room was for a disabled person. There was a shower over a bath. The bath was at least 1 metre deep. It would be with great difficulty a disabled person would get in and out of the bath for a shower? Also the hand basin and bath water outlets were blocked. It took an age for the used water to dissipate.

Great staff but some disappointment

Liked: Staff were excellent, very helpful and polite. Beds very comfortable.
Disliked: There was a build up of dust, perhaps from the renovations. Breakfast was a real disappointment and was not worth £12. Very basic hot buffet, eggs looked awful and I couldn't eat them. My wardrobe door was off and leaning against the wall.
