The Spotlight on Best Western Plus Grim'S Dyke Hotel

Peaceful Country Escape Just Minutes from the Action

Modern comfort meets classic charm at the Best Western Plus Grim's Dyke Hotel, nestled in 40 acres of lush gardens and woodland in Harrow Weald. Just 10 minutes from Watford and a short drive to Wembley Stadium, this Grade II-listed country house offers a relaxing contrast to the high-energy buzz of concert nights. With a mix of period-style rooms in the main house and more contemporary spaces in the garden lodge, it's a unique stay with timeless character.

Why Concert-goers love it

Concert fans appreciate this hotel’s peaceful surroundings after a loud night out. It’s only a 20-minute drive from major venues like Wembley Stadium and the Harry Potter Studio Tour, with easy access to transport if you’re heading into London. The flexible check-in at 15:00 and check-out at 11:00 gives you a bit of breathing room if you've been out late. Bonus: the on-site gardens and croquet lawns make a serene backdrop for your post-show wind-down.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends wanting a peaceful base away from the city noise
  • Solo travelers catching a bucket-list gig and craving a quiet night’s sleep
  • Couples looking for a romantic weekend with concert plans
  • Fans who want to recharge in classic countryside style
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who don’t mind a short ride to the venue

Food and Drink Options

Dining is a highlight here, thanks to the award-winning Gilbert’s Restaurant, which sources produce from the hotel’s own gardens. While it’s not a 24/7 operation, the seasonal menu and stunning views of the rose garden make it worth planning around. The Library Bar offers a cozy atmosphere for a pre- or post-show drink, and breakfast is available for those slower, post-concert mornings.

Nightlife Options

This isn’t a party hotel—but that’s part of its charm. The vibe is more fireside drinks than dance floor, ideal for those who’ve had their fill of loud music for the night. For more nightlife, nearby Watford offers bars and pubs just a short drive or taxi away.

What People Say

Guests rave about the “beautiful grounds,” “peaceful atmosphere,” and “character-rich rooms.” Many highlight the quality of the restaurant and the helpfulness of staff. It's a top choice for those wanting a relaxing retreat after a loud night out.

Areas for Improvement

While the setting is gorgeous, it’s a bit off the beaten path—a car or cab is likely needed to reach venues or nightlife. Some rooms in the garden lodge are more modern and less characterful than those in the main house, so it’s worth requesting your preference when booking.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a quiet, character-rich retreat after a big concert night, Best Western Plus Grim’s Dyke Hotel offers a perfect countryside escape just far enough from the noise.

Poor management.

Liked: Great location.
Disliked: It seems the management has changed, as I noticed a decline in service quality. The tone felt unprofessional and at times even arrogant, which is unacceptable when spending £200 per night. I expected a much higher level of hospitality and attention.

Idellic impressive hotel grounds with...

Liked: I like the location of the hotel and the seclusion. The room was well presented, and the bed was very comfortable. The room was very large more than more than I expected. The grounds of the hotel were well presented and a wonderful car park. The most spectacular is the woodland area of 40 acres to explore with all the flowers to identify. This hotel is impressive and the best we have ever stayed at over 60 years. The history on the walls of the hotel was very informative, and the staff was very knowledgeable. The pricing for drinks was spot according to days inflation and the decor of the interior made you appreciate its period. Well presented hotel above and beyond. The breakfast was very tasty, and the portions were just right according to your appetite. Overall ratings magnificent.
Disliked: There is nothing bad to say about this hotel

nice location good parking -...

Liked: location and nice when you get there good check in and parking secure.
Disliked: the Annex Part of the hotel which we were allocated is not part of the main hotel - they are round by the car park. The building looks 70s built and to be honest very tired. Room not great dated and stuffy and small. bathroom looked really basic and bath in need of replacement - just old and worn. Air con worked but fan quite noisy. Curtains very cheap as was blind.

Very good

Liked: This a very unexpected gem of a hotel. The staff was extremely helpful, the facilities, despite being dated and in need of some tlc, we're very comfortable. The building has interesting historical connections, which was an unexpected surprise.
Disliked: The were not lifts and getting to the rooms was a bit of a maze, plus you had to go through a function room, which had wedding preparations. The shower pressure was appalling!! Breakfast had to be pre-booked and if you didn't you could lose out.
