Stay at your own risk
Disliked: My wife and I stayed at the Best Western in Hickory, N.C. on our way to visit our grandkids. We have stayed there many times in the past. This hotel has rooms that are entered by an interior corridor that comes from the main entrance and passes by the front desk and lobby, offering limited access from the outside. You have to walk by the Hotel clerk, or have a keycard to come through one of the other doors. These interior rooms have been nice in the past. The other rooms are accessed from the outside parking areas, and in our case a second floor outdoor balcony. We were given one of these exterior rooms at the back of the hotel. This room was long overdue for an update. After checking in on April 4, we put our belongings in our room and went out for dinner. When we returned 2 hours later and entered our room, we found that all of our belongings were missing. We notified the desk and had them call the Police. The HPD officer and I checked the area and found that the door closer spring was not strong enough to completely close the door and that there weren't any security cameras. I've stayed at hotels all over America and in many other countries, their doors always have closers strong enough to close and automatically lock the door. There wasn't damage to the door, possibly suggesting the use of a key other than ours. After contacting our insurance company, I tried to call the Hotel manager. I left messages with the desk and on the manager's voice mail. on day four the manager finally returned my call. Basically the manager blamed me for not making sure that the door latched. You could maybe make that case, but if the door closer had worked as it should have, it probably wouldn't have happened. on top of that. if they would have had security cameras, well....... blame that on me too. I will never again stay in a hotel that doesn't care about the security of their guests and their belongings, and for sure never again at the Hickory Best Western.
