Liked: Convenient and historical.

Disliked: For a "four stars" hotel the presentations were really poor. Firstly, there are two stairs to get to the lobby and when the hotel staff sees you struggling they do not even propose to help. The bed is not even comfortable. May be a great city club but definitely not a nice hotel.

Liked: Beautiful Julia Morgan building. Loved the pool, the dining room, the location. I lived there 30 years ago when it was a residence ?club?. It has been maintained beautifully.
Disliked: A little pricey.

A unique hotel to stay
Liked: The style of the long-history building. The swimming pool. Close to the university.

Always a special joy to...
Liked: If a visitor is someone who appreciates the beauty of Julia Morgan's architecture, decor, and ambiance, the Berkeley City Club is an extraordinary experience. You are transported back a century. The dedication to restoration and preservation, the attentiveness of the staff , and the general feel of the place are one-of-a -kind. And where else could you swim in a gorgeous Art Deco inspired pool, listen to actors read from plays on Tuesdays and learn the Argentine tango on Wednesdays!
Disliked: I am sure I could find some small thing that was an annoyance but when I think of the big and small things that are done so well, that annoyance does not count for much.

Go there for a meal,...
Liked: Julia Morgan's architecture, of course, is why the Berkeley City Club is renowned and why it is worth visiting. The pool is amazing. The restaurants and bar are lovely. Walking around the inside of the hotel is pure pleasure. The neighborhood was OK, walking-distance close to a variety of restaurants.
Disliked: In the room assigned to us, the head of the bed against a damp window and there was a large step up to the bathroom (dangerous in the middle of the night!). We changed rooms, and the second room was near the elevator, and the mechanical noise was unbelievably loud and discomfiting--it was like sleeping in the subway. The room was damp and chilly. The door to the room touched the bed, which had a not very comfortable mattress. The front desk was not attended on the morning of our departure, but master keys were left on the counter, intended for housekeeping staff, but available to anyone to take and use.

Liked: An amazing building, old in the good way. perfect location, very nice staff
Disliked: Breakfast was really bad and doesn't fit to such a great place

Liked: Sad, no heating, no fridge but the bathroom was one no television
The building is of historical interest but after half a day the charm disappeared
Added was that the cost was very high for the offered amenity
