Very good
Liked: It was unique, charming, and quiet.
Disliked: The electrics in the room could use some attention. The bed lamp was close to breaking. The thermostat has seen better days.

Not worth the stay!
Liked: The grounds were nice. The hotel was old and shabby. Everything needed to be cleaned, smelled musty; windows didn’t close and lock. The bed was horrible; lumpy mattress and pillows with old sheets. The coffee pot and cups were dirty.
Disliked: Not clean, mattress, pillows, sheets. Smelled musty.

Disappointing, and we will share...
Liked: Quietness and Old School furniture and carpets. Bathroom water pressure and heat were excellent. Food at restaurant and bar were good.
Disliked: There was no available TV in the room. If we would have known, we wouldn't have went. Will seriously think about alternate arrangements. We need to view the news morning and night. There was no Phone charger outlets/inlets available to charge our phones or iPads.......not a biggie for an overnight stay, but any longer and it would be unacceptable. Not telling us that the TV service was unpaid or out of action was serious dent in our enjoyment, Sorry that's the reality.

Spring is a perfect time...
Liked: I love the design and decor in the hotel; the dining room has a welcoming feel and the food was delicious. The staff made us feel at home. We especially enjoyed the fireplace in the lounge, and the teatime scones. I love the woodwork on the staircases! The location on the Eel River is appealing and it is a pleasure just to sit in the garden overlooking the river. The proximity to Garberville anad the Avenue of the Giants was just what we hoped for.
Disliked: The food was delicious, but portions could be smaller: I ordered a salad with a dinner entree, and it was enough for a meal unto itself. There was no refrigerator in our room, so we couldn't keep what we were unable to finish.

WONDERFUL, memorable.
Liked: The old world feeling. The attention and pleasantness of the staff. The deliciousness of the food. The location in the trees and closeness to the Eel River. Witnessing how the locals enjoyed it too by coming to the bar and restaurant.
Disliked: It wasn't that I didn't like it, but an observation that walls and the ceiling in places needed repair.

Disappointed
Liked: Such a lovely historic hotel that now has an elevator. Dinner wad excellent but pricey. The river view and terraces were lovely.
Disliked: Upgraded our room and got a hard bed and windows that did not open because of the noisy vents outside. There were cobwebs in the windows and behind the TV. When I said something, they cleaned up our room but didn't clean the cobwebs. Hotel was damaged by an earthquake and water leaks and not repaired. Sad. Golf course was not mowed and the greens were dead.
