The Spotlight on Bay Pointe Inn

Lakeside Relaxation Meets Live Music Vibes

Modern yet charming, Bay Pointe Inn offers a serene lakeside retreat in Shelbyville, Michigan—roughly 26 miles from Grand Rapids and close enough to catch a concert without the city crowds. Nestled on Gun Lake, this 3-star resort blends peaceful natural surroundings with welcoming amenities like an indoor pool, on-site dining, and evening entertainment. Whether you're heading to a big show or just soaking up the atmosphere, this resort delivers a relaxed, music-friendly vibe.

Why Concert-goers love it

Bay Pointe Inn hits the right note for music fans who want to stay out of the downtown hustle. Located about 30 minutes from several west Michigan venues, it offers a quiet, scenic spot to recharge after a show. With free parking, 24-hour front desk service, and evening entertainment on-site, it's easy to keep the good vibes going late into the night. Rooms are well-appointed with air conditioning, coffee makers, and some even include kitchenettes—great for guests staying more than one night.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a fun and scenic pre/post-concert hangout
  • Solo travelers seeking peace and quiet after a bucket-list gig
  • Couples making a romantic weekend of their concert plans
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who appreciate value and comfort

Food and Drink Options

The on-site restaurant serves up American, seafood, and local cuisine, with options for vegetarians, vegans, and dairy-free diners. While there's no mention of 24-hour room service, the resort does offer evening dining and has vending machines for late-night cravings. A coffee machine in every room means you can ease into the morning after a late night.

Nightlife Options

While Bay Pointe isn't in a major nightlife district, it hosts evening entertainment on-site and features a bar with a relaxed atmosphere—ideal for a post-show wind-down. If you're looking for more action, nearby towns offer cozy taverns and local bars within a short drive.

What People Say

Guests consistently praise the beautiful lake views, peaceful setting, and friendly staff. Many reviewers highlight the clean, comfortable rooms and note how relaxing it is to stay away from the downtown crowd after a big event. The indoor pool and gardens are also big hits for those who want to make it a weekend getaway.

Areas for Improvement

While the location is scenic, it's a bit of a drive from most concert venues, so plan ahead for transport. Some guests wished for a later breakfast option, especially after a late night out. Also, evening entertainment is on the quieter side—great for some, not ideal for those looking to party.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a peaceful, comfortable base with a touch of lakeside charm after your Michigan concert, Bay Pointe Inn strikes just the right chord.

Beautiful spot

Liked: The breakfast was ok and pretty standard at most US chain hotels. The location on the lake was beautiful and the restaurant onsite was good.
Disliked: We could hear the upstairs guest's and our neighbor's every move. I'm not sure what could have been done since it's most likely because there is not enough sound dampening in the walls, ceiling and floors.

Wouldn't accommodate needs

Liked: The staff was friendly, the pool area was nice and it was very clean. The breakfast was great as well!
Disliked: We booked a lake view room and got a "garden room" which was the parking lot. I asked the front desk if we could switch or cancel. She said I would forfeit the full payment whether I stayed or not. I asked if we could do an upcharge for the right room and She told me it would cost more than the hotel would even charge for the room. Apparently there was no way to pay the difference, on the booking.com app it was like $30 more. I had left a message for the Inn and stated that this was a very special stay for my daughter and myself and if they could do anything to make her stay better it would be appreciated. They gave her a bear, which was nice but she picked The lake view and we couldn't even upgrade("garden view" which is the parking lot absolutely no "garden" not one flower. The restaurant service and food was very poor. I do NOT recommend it to anyone.

Very good

Liked: Would we stay again? Yes, Absolutely! This is a reasonably priced "Desirination" location. A must visit to experience each lovely season in the area. Our trip was an overnight stay due to an emergency at home requiring us to be away. Our visit was off-season.Some suggestions for improvementsThe main doors need to have an automatic option if you're not going to have door-persons. As an older couple, it was challenging to maneuver the double set of doors. ADA guests will require assistance to navigate. Our room was excellent. However, there was a lack of electrical outlet availability. Not uncommon. I carry an outlet adapter and extension cord as we have CPAPS, Smartphones, etc. My suggestion would be to extend existing outlets with discrete baseboard level surface mount extenders. Anyone staying with business / remote work needs will be challenged.Notable, besides the lovely vibe, great staff, and fireplaces (truly a lovely place) some outstanding Notables:The beds, sheets, and pillows made for a cozy and wonderful nights sleep. Seriously outstanding! The pool & hottub area - we loved the fact it wasn't overwhelming with chlorine chemical smells like so many places! It was truly noteworthy! In my opinion, salt water hottubs and pools are the best.Dining is experiential with a night out luxury setting. Pricing was moderate, perhaps high for the local community. However, the menu, service, setting, and quality totally justify the indulgence. Pride in quality, menu options , presentation, and experience are noteworthy.A great Date Night Lovation when you want to experience something 'special' without breaking the bank or traveling to a big city. We truly enjoyed our entire stay, and would recommend this destination. We look forward to visiting again and experiencing the different seasons.I referred to this as yet another hidden treasure in this lovely area. - POTU David
