Barnett Hill Hotel

Was here for two nights,...

Liked: Beautiful surroundings and nice from the outside.
Disliked: Rooms were dirty. Flies and dead spiders in the corners. Dirty blinds. Parts missing from the shower mount. A lot of wear on the rooms in general which would be expected from an old building, but for the price it should be upgraded.

Liked: Venue near Guildford and the mansion from the outside as well as the park
Disliked: Very disappointing and not recommendable - starting with the room, I booked the hotel half a year before and one could think that you get a proper room! We had a long journey from Cornwall behind us which I even told reception staff and just wanted a nice hotel room to relax, but it was horrible: Harry Potter style under the stairs feeling room as the staircase was much to high / steep to get to it- we just managed without the luggage. No king size / French bed as written. Bed linen dirty but as it was late did not go down the way to the reception. Last and only room under the roof top and not as the photos on the booking com website. Room was also dirty and not properly cleaned - webs at the window, sprinkle on the mirror. The bathtub was much too high to step in.The Bar 1905 chairs were very lived in and dirty. Not well maintained. Bar staff not being attentive at all, seemed like the don‘t work there, the shouted at us from the bar and we we had to shout out to them our order as they did not manage to come and take the order at the table - more a pub style behavior but the hotel/ bar look style wants to be sophisticated. The bar staff chatted happily to each other 3-4 of them including the reception manager but did not take care of us.Also my ordered tea was not available - they ran out of it and no alternative was given. Very overpriced for what you get.Reception staff at arrival (seemed to be new) tried her best but was telling us the hotel is fully booked so we could not change the room even to a higher class, strangely the hotel was so quiet that it could not be full. We where the only ones in the bar and outside where two couples sitting.Staff all over are not trained as you expect in a 4 star hotel. In the morning there was additionally half a bootle of whisky and a towel lying in the driveway outside the entrance. In the second room the window was not able to open and therefore sauna like.

Perfect intimate wedding venue

Liked: We had our wedding here with 40 guests and it was fantastic. Staff were really attentive and gave very personal service. Absolutely beautiful public spaces and bedrooms. Food was top quality too.

Fabulous despite the hiccup with...

Liked: Fabulous gardens and grand estate. Excellent breakfast. Comfortable bed.
Disliked: Our room hasn’t been cleaned properly before our arrival and we had to request someone to come in and clean whilst we were out.
