Set in a beautifully preserved 1778 home, the Barksdale House Inn blends old-world elegance with modern comfort. With its European-style decor, four-poster beds, and inviting atmosphere, this centrally located inn is a cozy home base for exploring the city’s vibrant live music offerings. Just steps from the College of Charleston and under a mile from the Old City Market, you're right in the heart of historic downtown Charleston.
This inn's prime location makes it easy to walk to many of Charleston’s most popular venues and music events. After a late night out, guests love returning to a peaceful, quiet atmosphere, far from the noise of bars and clubs. The flexible 3:00 PM check-in and early 7:30 AM check-out suit travelers with tight show schedules or early flights. Plus, the charming ambiance provides a perfect wind-down after a high-energy night.
While there's no on-site restaurant, the Barksdale House Inn offers a daily à la carte breakfast — perfect if you've been up late. Coffee-making facilities in each room help with early mornings, and you’ll find plenty of walkable dining options nearby, including late-night bites on King Street just a few blocks away.
Though the inn itself is quiet, you’re only a short stroll from Charleston’s thriving nightlife. Live music bars, cocktail lounges, and clubs are all within easy reach, especially around King Street and the French Quarter. For a more laid-back evening, explore cozy wine bars or rooftop spots with local flair.
Some guests mention that the historic charm comes with a few quirks — like smaller bathrooms or creaky floors — but most agree it adds to the inn’s authentic feel. If you're looking for a sleek, modern hotel experience, this might not be your style.
The Barksdale House Inn is a cozy, character-filled choice for concert-goers who value location, charm, and a peaceful place to unwind after the show.

Excellent facilities, location and staff.
Liked: The staff at the Barksdale were exceptional and treated us as family. We were greeted with a warm hug and called by name throughtout our visit.
Disliked: The only thing that would have helped this "senior" couple is a grab-bar in the bathroom and additional hooks to hang our clothes or pjs on.

A definite win win. We...
Liked: The location is perfect - walking distance to everything. On a quiet block which seems odd so close to activity. Staff shares that Southern hospitality charm! So attentive and accommodating. Breakfast was great! Afternoon tea as well was a nice way to rest in between our activities. We felt very comfortable sitting in the common area.

Good location, excellent breakfast
Liked: Aliah, the receptionist when we arrived, was friendly and very helpful with information. Breakfast was sumptuous, specially made and served and very tasty. The location was one half block away from the free shuttle bus, which saved us some walking in the heat.
Disliked: We could have done without the TV running in the background during breakfast. Even at low volume it was distracting, and there was no need for it. People who stay in B&B's usually prefer quieter surroundings.

Had a great 3 nights...
Liked: Good location and the staff are all terrific. Great breakfast to start the day.
Disliked: Bed a tad too high but not much of an issue. TV not positioned too well in room #11.
